No monitor; Bluetooth useless As an interface (audio to USB) this little box is great. It also works well as a portable mixer. The build is high-quality, and the sound is flawless. The problem is, there is no way to monitor your signal on this box while recording. There is a button that sends a monitoring signal to the headphones, but it TURNS OFF THE MAIN FEED. Say what? Trying to monitor what you're recording actually interrupts the recording. This is really kind of bizarre; I can't believe the box was designed this way on purpose. When I couldn't monitor with plug-in phones, I tried monitoring with Bluetooth headphones. No go -- the Bluetooth in this box is a receiver, and not a transmitter. Presumably you could send a external signal IN to whatever you were recording, but why would you want to do that??A couple of simple mods would make this a five-star item: allow monitoring while recording without interrupting the record process; and allow monitoring via Bluetooth.Good luck. 3Not ideal for recording live instruments with a track Laid down a bass track for a friend over the weekend using this interface and discovered that output from my pc bleeds into channel 1 as it is recording. My instrument was plugged into channel 1. I recorded while listening to the track my friend sent me. My final bass track had a hint of the track I was playing along to sitting under all of my bass. I didn't realize the unit worked like this until after i spent a whole bunch of time laying down useless bass tracks.I purchased this because I thought it could do the job of my larger recording interface (yamaha audiogram 6) but in a more compact form, I was wrong. It is impossible to hear audio from your PC without toggling the "usb assign to line" button. This action sets PC audio to the "line 2/3" input. Raising the volume on line 2/3 to hear pc audio (in my case, the track i was playing along to) meant that the audio from line 2/3 bled into input line 1. I do not understand why there isn't isolation. I'm sure this product works well for other use cases, but it is not ideal for recording a live instrument while using a backing track. 2Great mixer for streamers or podcasters. So I use this mixer for my stream and it works great. For people complaining that you either have to have to output to monitor or MAIN MIX, this mixer is meant for the PC. Even when you're outputting to monitor, you can still get output via USB to your PC, or input from your USB. My setup is that I have a 3.5mm to RCA coming into line in on my mixer from my PCIe soundcard, then I have a XLR mic plugged into the mixer and I also have 2K-TK plugged in via 3.5mm to RCA from my streaming PC's headphone out. It's a great setup and I get the processed sound from my soundcard and can control the sound of my headphones. I highly recommend this for streamers as it's cheap and does the job perfectly. 5 stars! 5I do not recommend this unit I've had this mixer for about a year now I think. I had given it 4 stars, but I don't know if the unit has deteriorated or what. I was going to take it to a friend's house for karaoke today using a good speaker. I plugged in high quality Bose headphones into the phone jack, plugged in a Shure SM58 microphone, and the sound quality was awful. Changing the mic cable did not help. In fact a good mic cable would not even plug into the unit. I then connected it to a Behringer speaker, and it was near impossible to get a decent volume from the mic without pushing the volume to the limit and then I got feedback. So I regret to say, it is going into the trash. Sorry. 2Good quality, but low voltage phantom power This is a good product. However be aware that the phantom power is not very high voltage. As a result, you will have to still use another phantom power source to power up a high end mic. That said, it was easy to setup and produced good quality audio. But again, don't plan on using it with a condenser mic unless you have another source for phantom power. 4Great For Computer Audio Out. A couple of years ago I added a Keith McMillan 12 Step to my music rig so I could play some simple synth pads (by tapping pedals with my foot)) while playing bass. I found that the setup I had was a little unruly. The 12 Step plugged into my MacBook and for an audio out I was employinga firewire audio interface which was then plugged into a mixer which then routed to either an amp or a DI box depending on where we were playing. While this worked, it's a bit of a pain to setup. The firewire unit required a thunderbolt to usb converter to connect to the Mac and then 2 1/4" cables to connect to the mixer (which required it's own power supply). Needless to say, while it sounded great, setup and teardown was tedious especially when you're rushed for time to get on/off stage.I started thinking it was time to simplify my setup. After some research, I decided to give the Pyle PAD20MXU 5 Channel a try. It looked like it fit the bill: A single, small unit that was powered by USB, and could do audio out from a computer. It also had a basic EQ on it which was a selling point. Also, it was under $60, so why not? When I got the unit, I was surprised at how sturdy it felt. It's metal, which is nearly unheard of in mixers/audio interfaces in this price range. The knobs, buttons and sliders are a tad on the cheap side but it's too be expected and they don't feel like they're going to fall off at the drop of a hat. The only knob I'll really be touching at any given time is the master and as long as I don't abuse it, it should be ok.It was super simple to setup and use. Plug it into the Mac, flip the switch to On and everything worked right off the bat. Both OS X and MainStage picked up the unit and all was well.My set setup is Pyle mixer plugged into the Mac. Cable from the Pyle's monitor output to an amp or DI box. That's it, that's all.One note on the monitor output, and the reason I didn't give this unit five stars: It would have been awesome if the Monitor output was 1/4" rather than 3.5mm. I was hoping to not have to use adaptors with the new setup... I knew when I bought the unit that the Monitor was 3.55 so I grabbed a 1/4"-3.5mm adaptor so I'm good, and it works, but not having to resort to this would have been awesome. (I know the 2 channel one has it, but I wanted the basic EQ sliders that the 5 channel offered, so I guess that's my trade off). All in all for what I use it for, it's a solid, simple to use little device. It really streamlined my setup and the sound I'm getting is comparable to the full firewire/powered mixer setup I used to run with. There is not hum or extra noise in the output sound, and no latency. I've not tried recording with it. but that's not why I bought it.I'd recommend this to someone looking for an inexpensive mixer that can double as a computer audio interface. 4Choose monitor or send to main output, can't do both How do you have a switch that is EITHER main line OR monitor? Can't I monitor while it's going out to the main output? This is one of the dumbest design decisions that I've seen in a mixer. Since when do you have to decide between monitoring your levels via headphones or send to the live output? Would not work for cueing and testing levels in a performance scenario (or any reasonable scenario, for that matter). Monitor when you set up and pray it is fine for the rest of the time you're using the mixer, because you can't listen to both. 3update i had made a bad review on t his mixer but it turns out i was the problem not the mixer.a fella messaged me and explained the unit needed to charge 4 hours,i cant find that in the the manual .the manual is lacking in some parts .it works now and does pretty well.i use it as an interface for guitar, keyboard, and midi. i have the new akai mini play that only works as a midi controller with USB data connection but cant access the firmware built in ,a midi with voices and drum patterns. i can play through the line in and daisy chain the connections ,mpk via the earphone jack, 3.5 to dual RCA input to the line in and record as an audio device(the mixer interface) works great and makes my recordings sound 10 times better. very happy now 5Works Great to Practice Bass Guitar mixed with Mp3s I needed a way to practice playing bass along with the a mp3 for my worship team without disturbing my family. Even though I have a nice Ampeg amp, my family would complain that walls reverberate too much when I played and they can't concentrate on what they are doing. This 3 channel mixer works great for this. It plugs into my computer via USB and my computer recognizes it as an usb audio device on one channel. Then I plug my bass via 1/4 jack on another channel. There is also gain and/or volume control for each channel, a high and low EQ, and pan L/R. My headset 3.5 mm plugs into the device without need for an adapter. If needed there is also an input for XLR, RCA cables, and bluetooth. Even though I did not use the bluetooth input, I have read in other reviews that it does not output by bluetooth. 5Pro quality audio at a budget price. Works fantastic, Audio to the computer is as clear as my $500 PreSonus mixer. no drivers needed at all on Mac/OSXNoise floor is below -80db Honestly this thing is absolutely usable by anyone trying to do pro level recording. 5
