Customer Reviews

I loved the cut that muchI bought this CD because it was the only format that includes Gregg Allman's cut, I'll Be Holding On. You can't presently get it from "the cloud". Yes, I loved the cut that much! Later, I decided to listen to the whole CD and was pleasantly surprised. Definitely worth the price and the trouble of fishing out my CD player from time to time!5Will the full Hans Zimmer score ever be commercially released? Don't hold your breathThe score to the movie "Black Rain" is one of Hans Zimmer's best from the 1980s and that would mean one of his best period. After the career highlight of winning the Academy Award for "The Lion King" ( a beautiful score and well deserved Oscar win ), Zimmer has become the Hollywood go to guy for derivative action scores. Everyone from Michael Bay ( The Rock ) to Ron Howard ( DaVinci Code ) to Christopher Nolan ( Batman Begins/The Dark Knight ) has worked with Zimmer. Before Zimmer's immense popularity, he was doing solid work in the 80s, none better than Black Rain. Unfortunately the full score was never made commercially available, appearing only as some promotional release many years ago. The entire score is more than an hour in duration and has some of Zimmer's best action cues as well as some of his most genuinely moving melodic themes. On this CD we get more than 20 minutes of the score compiled into a suite. It has some of the best music to be found in the whole movie but a music fan wishes for more! Zimmer is a master at fusing synthesizers with orchestral instruments. It gives his music a hard rock edge that can always dissolve into melodic sweetness when the need calls for it.The pop tracks are 80s delights, none more so than the big number "I'll Be Holding On", composed by Zimmer with vocals by Gregg Allman. The whole album is garish 80s cheese at it's finest! The Allman song is just perfect for this movie and one of my favorite pop tunes from the whole decade. Black Rain is another instance of a score being better than the actual film itself. At the same time they are perfectly suited to each other. Too bad you can only listen to the full score by watching the movie.4Great movie, its one of the best in the investigation/action segment. Much action in a good story.Great movie! I have in mind that movie is one of the best in the investigation/action segment. Michel Douglas and Garcia made a special team. Also the theme case with Japanese Mafia is very interesting once they talk about nuclear bomb in Japan and development of Oiabans.Much action inside a good story.5Classic soundtrack!Great item! A classic!5Really Great PurchaseI only wanted one song on this CD. I searched for a long time for it in a single. It was never available. It was so worth buying the CD. I've watched the movie for years. I was pleased with the other songs as well. There isn't one cut that isn't great. But for me, Gregg Allman and the Allman Brothers Band have always been in the top five of my favorites. And Iggy Pop, Really? Wow! So this purchase was one that I will never be sorry I made. Thanks Amazon for making it available5Excellent Score from Hans Zimmer and La La Land records.I watched the movie 30 years ago first time on DVD and was wondering when I can listen to the complete (expanded) soundtrack. I much appreciate the expanded version issued from La La Land records and enjoy listening to Disc 1 and Disc 2 (expect the songs 2-6) plus the bonus tracks. Also wondered why this release has not been issued earlier. 32 tracks, runtime 2 hrs 22 min. Well done, thank you Hans! Still waiting for other Soundtracks (expanded, complete and no bootleg) such as Inception, Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, etc.)...5Five StarsExcellent music from a movie. Have always liked this soundtrack. Thanks for the great service.5Greg Allman trackLoved the film but bought it mainly for the Greg Allman track! Well worth it5The wife loved itPurchased primarily for the songs, the sound track itself had little entertainment value.4fast shipping.well packaged, new cD , very satisfied.5
