Call of Juarez - Bound In BloodThere are not many games with a Western storyline and none that I know of that matches the fun that I had with this one and it's older counterpart. This basically a shooter with many extras such as using the lasso to climb and swing from trees, etc. You can also play the game twice to play the other brother to get the different angle on the game. I am into games like Fear, Call of Duty, Godfather, etc. and found this game to be a great diversion from just shooting up the enemy.5Beautiful Graphics, dumb enemy AII played this game on my Macbook Pro (512MB video ram, 4GB RAM) and it looked absolutely amazing and ran smoothly. Shooting a cannon and seeing heat from the shot distort the scenery as it travels showed me how good games can look now. The story is fun although maybe not completely original, but well done with an interesting ending. This was my first time playing a first person shooter set in the wild west and it was a nice change of scenery from WW2 shooters, and the scenery really is beautiful. As for the cons, the story is very linear (which is OK with me since I don't have that much time to play games nowadays). The main narrator, the third brother, does get annoying after a while with his comments about salvation and sin, and the characters do sway oddly when they stand and talk to one another. While your brother's AI is fine, the enemy is as smart as a whack-a-mole. Finally, the normal mode is a little too easy, while the hard mode is very frustrating.4This review contains no spoilers(Ubisoft, 2009) If you've ever thought that a game set in the old west might be good, this one is worthlooking at. Other old west games I've played are 'GUN' and the first 'Call of Juarez'. I liked both ofthose but this one far better; worth writing a review of. From this point on I'll refer to 'Call of Juarez:Bound in Blood' as 'BIB' and the first edition as 'COJ'.BIB is a first person shooter. It is the prequel to COJ. Both are stand-alone releases, and both are verystrictly linear games. COJ contained no clue as to what a call of juarez actually is. BIB answers thatquestion. The 'call' is the irresistible lure, or beckoning everyone feels about a mysterious hiddentreasure. It's a innate compulsion or desire we all have to find a lost fortune, or the modern version is towin the lottery. 'Juarez' is a animated character in the single-player mode of this version. He is anelusive Mexican bandito who has secret clue to the location of the treasure. You play as the 'McCall' brothers and choose between them which you will play in each chapter. Each brotherhas unique skills but that doesn't seem to matter much in your choice. The setting is around the time of theUS Civil War (1860). Both brothers are soldiers in the Confederate Army and serve under a Col. Barnsby whois another key character throughout the game. While serving under his command, Barnsby learns of theexistence of a lost Aztec treasure while trading with Mexican gun runners (Juarez). When the end of theCivil War comes, Barnsby refuses to surrender and instead decides to chase after the Aztec treasure. Heplans to use the fortune to continue fighting the Union. He wants the McCall brothers to help him find it.The McCalls realize Barnsby is insane and decide to find the treasure on their own, partly to keep it awayfrom Col. Barnsby. This game is a shooter of the first degree. No matter which character you play, shooting is nearlycontinuous throughout the entire game. But that's not done just to cover up a weak story. In fact, thestory is not too bad. The brothers fall in love with the same women, the beautiful and sexy 'Marissa', butshe ain't exactly pure as the driven snow. She's married to the bandito Juarez who you are chasing to get aclue on the treasure. This results in several interesting exchanges between the brothers.Linear shooters still, even to this day, hang on to the ridiculous 'boss battle' structure. In BIB, the bossbattles come in the form of quick draw showdowns. These become increasingly difficult as the gameprogresses. Between the boss battles, you are following a treasure hunt with several minor plot twists. Ofcourse, there's horseplay, Indian folklore, stagecoach fights, finding secrets, and many fast-paced shootoutswith 'bad guys'. Also, there are a few side missions often called 'mini games'. These are optional taskssuch as hunting down a wanted criminal for a cash reward. Cash can be helpful as it allows you to purchaseupgraded weapons. The graphics, audio, voice acting, and production value are all quite good and it has multiplayer, but nocoop mode. The best thing is that it's NOT loaded down with ridiculous security like SECUROM, and it doesn'trequire STEAM or WINDOWS LIVE. Thank god! The single player mode took me about 8 hours to finish. Irecommend 'Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood' especially when you can get it for less than $10.4GREAT GAME!!AWESOME GAME!!! Easy to set up and start playing and if you like shooter games, then this game is perfect for you! I love this game!5Awesome Game! Great Price! This game is Awesome! If you like first person shooters, this is the very best one for Westerns! Hands down! The graphics are very detailed, the sounds are probably the best part of the game. If you carry two different style of pistols, they both have their own unique but amazingly accurate sounds. From the ricochets, the horse trotting and snorting to the glass breaking and fire roaring the sounds are awesome. The whole game, from beginning to end is a thrill ride.5Way too difficult....This game COULD have been good but it's just plain hard to play. Even in "easy" mode it takes several tries before you get the hang of it as there is no real tutorial to guide you through the controls at the beginning. The game play and story line is fairly standard but the graphics do tell the age of the game...but that's to be expected from an old game. The biggest let down are are recurring "gun fights" which are incredibly difficult to master. I literally got stuck on one particular showdown so many times that I stopped playing the game all together. In fact, I never managed to get to the end because of the difficulty and lack of tutorials on how to get through the game. I got sick of You Tubing the game for tips on how to get to the next level.....here and there is cool but if you can't get through hardly any section in a game without having to "look up" how to play it then that kills the fun of it to me.I haven't played any other Call of Juarez games so I have nothing to compare this one to but, for my money, I would not have bought this knowing what I now know.23.5 stars to this highly underrated, very short gameI'm really not sure why there aren't more western themed video games, because the setting works very well with the medium. Case in point: Call of Juarez, a ridiculously fun (and disappointingly short) thrill ride through a mythical old west.PROS--Excellent story: There are so many games out there that treat stories as optional, and it's nice to see one that's put a lot of effort into creating a compelling narrative. The voice work is fantastic, and the cutscenes are well directed and well written. Not that the story isn't both ridiculous and filled with cliches: it is. But it somehow it manages to pull everything off just the same. There's a certain grimness to the final levels that's rare in video games, and an emotional depth to the main characters, even if they do come across as caricatures sometimes. It worked for me.--Great shooting: Not only does this game feature *three* types of bullet time, it also makes shooting at a regular pace very fun as well. The weapons (ranging from pistols to rifles to knives to shotguns and more) are all very satisfying to shoot, and the death animations are nicely done. There's also an automatic cover system that comes in handy. Healing is Call of Duty style, so you don't have to worry about annoying health packs.--Two characters: Most levels let you choose between the two protagonists, Thomas and Ray, and the choice will have an impact on how you play the game. Ray can dual wield pistols, use dynamite, and soak up more damage. Thomas can snipe more accurately, use knives for silent kills, and use his lasso to reach high areas. Adding to the replayability of the game, you'll also play different sections of each level depending on which brother you choose.--Great environments: The old west has never looked this good. Besides the gorgeous scenery, though, the environments lend themselves well to combat: railings and barrels are shattered and tossed around the environment by gunfire, and the numerous oil lamps lying around mean that you can set much of the scenery on fire as well (either by shooting them or throwing them). The one disappointment: bodies can't be moved or interacted with after death.CONS--Short: It took me seven hours and fifteen minutes to beat the game; much less than your average shooter. While there is some argument to be made for playing the game twice, it's still a disappointingly brief experience.--Open world isn't so open: The game does experiment with open world sections in some cases, but these sequences pretty much only let you do a few optional missions. Granted, said missions are a lot of fun, but it would have been nice to see a Western that gave you more choices as to where to go and what to do there. In the end, the length prevents me from recommending paying full price for Call of Juarez. But if you can find a copy for $20 or so, it's a fantastic romp through a world all too often neglected by video games.4Not as good as the first oneThis game was frustrating at times, and okay at others, its playable but i don't think i would go back and play it again, i thought the first game from this series was better and there were parts of this 2nd game that completely copied parts from the first game, a poor job by the developers still for a couple of bucks 3-5 i would pick it up3Great game to play, Must have.I bought this game because it reminded me of Red Dead Revolver nad Redemption. It's just as good. I really like playing this game online. The different stages you can play. Play against everyone, play in teams, complete team missions, ect. This game is a must have if you like western theme games. My kid & i fight to play this game online eveyday. Can't wait for Call of Juarez3.5Call Of Juarez Bound In LinearityI had hopes that this game would be a good western game, but this game is so botched it is hard to give it even a 2 star rating. You are just rushed from one fight scene to the next almost without a chance to catch your breath. The duels stink, the story smells, voice acting almost only consists of cussing and smart aleck one liners, and the textures are a joke. I never got a chance to just look around to try and see the world I was playing in. I have heard the last game Gunslinger is a arcade type shooter and that is what they should have done with this one as this is pretty much a joke.2
