Love these stringsLove these strings! They do not last as long as I would like but I gig a lot and I am greasy. Excellent balanced sound with a smoking B that sounds clean and intonates right on pitch even on a 34" scale. I play many different styles including country, metal, classic rock, blues, tejano, jazz, just everything and these strings paired up with a quality bass can nail virtually every tone. I use them on a Fender Jazz 5 and they are the only strings I use now. If your on the road and can't get anything shipped from Amazon virtually every guitar store sells D'Addario so I'm usually in the clear (correct gauge is what I'm worried about). I would at least try them, everyone has a different preference but these get a solid thumbs up from me.4Don t buy if you have to feed the strings through the back side of the bodyI have a 35 scale bass so I figured these strings would seem fitting. Well, I was wrong and forgot to account that my strings don t get feed through the bridge but get feed through the backside. The tapered part of the stings sit between the 1st fret and nut and causes it to buzz as seen in my photos. If you have a bass set up like mine, go with Ernie Balls.3Great Piccolo SetI really personally give them a 4 because they're very bright and produce a lot of noise (outside of the note). But they're nickel wound roundwounds, and they're advertised as bright so it's a personal preference thing not a 'bad string' thing; so they stay at 5. They are lovely strings with nice high tension so you can still play like a bassist. Again, par for the course for nickel wound roundwounds, they're tough on the fingers especially if you're used to flatwounds. And like some have mentioned, I had to drop the pickup under the E and G because they were outputing more than the rest of the set. I have replaced these with regular guitar strings because I didn't like the brightness. I had to wrap-around the bridge, but since I have a short scale the guitar strings were still long enough.5Top strings: Nice to install and playThe following was written by my husband who uses the bass guitar.I don t think anyone likes to restring an electric bass guitar. It can be like fighting a hardware war with the heavy wires. With the D Addario string set I bought, I had a pretty easy time. Some of the nice features are the color-coded stays and the tapering on the E-string.You will also find the finish on the strings to be very smooth and even. The set of strings comes in a sealed bag so there is no oxidation or corrosion. After you have finished the grunt work, tuning these strings is very consistent and they tune to pitch without any trouble.I found the strings to be easy on my fingers. I got the medium nickel wound strings and they are on the mellow side. I like the sound and the action of the strings. I would certainly buy these again. (Pics simply show the color stays and stringing progress).5I am quite pleased with the sound and feel of theseI bought two sets of these, one for a Fender Squier Modified Jaguar bass and the other for an Epiphone EB-0. I've been upgrading both and experimenting with strings, pickups, etc. just to discover what kind of improvements really work without spending a fortune or messing up an expensive legacy instrument. I had previously tried the lighter gauge 170S from D'Addario but wanted the same gauge as my longs scale for the short scale basses. After some neck and bridge setup changes, I am quite pleased with the sound and feel of these. After I gig with these I will have a better idea of true rating. My other bass is a 1967 Fender Jazz with Ernie Ball Super Slinkys.4The Best Strings...Simply put, these are the best strings at the lowest price. I've been playing electric bass for over 35 years and these are the brand I always come back to. I've tried Dr. Bass, Rotosounds, Fender, Markleys, etc. with no noticeable difference or improvement. D'Addarios sound great and last a long time. You can usually find them in multi-packs and/or on sale so it doesn't hurt to change them more often. This is one example where use don't get what you pay for, your get more! They come in many different lengths and gauges, so make sure you buy the correct set for your instrument. If you select a different gauge, don't forget that you may have to make adjustments to the intonation, string height, and/or neck relief on your bass or guitar.5I have tried much more expensive strings and always come back to theseMy favorite strings at a great price. I play out regularly and we play long sets. I'm aggressive with my plucking fingers and after a two hour set, the nickel is easier on my fingers than stainless steel. I have never compared nickel and stainless side by side, but I can't notice any loss of high end sparkle. When wiped down after each set, these strings last as long as any others I have ever used and I've tried most brands over the course of my career that has spanned well over 1500 gigs. These strings sound as great on my Fender Jazz as they do on my Spector.5Brightest Nickels. Top notch quality.I've spent an uncomfortable amount of money on bass strings in the attempt to find the perfect set for me. Of course, the assessment of what is best depends on which bass I'm putting these on, but the quality of these strings is truly top notch in any application. I have them now on my 1976 Rickenbacker 4001 (EXL 170 set) and I don't think I'll need to search any further. They provide the perfect balance of tension (in fact, D'Addario gives you all the tension specs... if that helps you) and contribute faithfully to the distinct Ric sound that one would expect from these basses.Of all the Nickel plated strings I have tested, these are by far the brightest. They produce excellent high/mid-high tones without the excessive "clangyness" that some steel strings can exhibit. The low-end punch isn't left out either. You also get the benefit of the softer feel of nickel on your fingers, and they're a bit easier on the frets. Give these a try! You won't be disappointed.5Good short scale strings at a very affordable priceGood short scale strings at a very affordable price. They have a bright sound, and the light gauge works for my daughter's Ibanez Micro bass. I had a hard time finding a short scale string that was inexpensive and quality, but the D'Addario is perfect. Before I found these, I put regular scale strings on her bass, and I do not recommend doing that because it changed the neck, and the E string did not easily fit in the tuning peg.5Awesome stingsI have used the D'Addario Regular Light Gauge in the past and I was definitely satisfied. The Super Light Gauge took a little getting used to. They are definitely lighter and sound brighter than the Regular Light Gauge. I felt the difference right away. I do like them better now, and I plan to continue using them from now on. If you thump and pop, you will definitely appreciate these strings. If you haven't tried them already, I would suggest giving them a try.5
