Terrible packaging ruin these strings. The strings come in one package. They are tangled together and its very difficult to untangle what should not be tangled. Each string should be in its own pack. But they are not. I sent the pack I got back after I could not get them untangled without damaging them.At the very least - if you are shoving them all in one pack to save money, at least put them in there in a way that all six are not so tangled you can't separate them.I would not recommend these, or any string that is packaged in such a way. These are also the MOST expensive string on the market. Knowing that - why would they not have their own packaging as the most popular string, earnie ball, does? Earnie ball - the top selling and brand I use most are 3 for 10 bucks! that's 5 less than one pack of these strings - shoved poorly into one bag.if you want strings for your electric, look for individually and easy to open strings.my suggestions for great strings are Elixir (they come in several coatings which help you to achieve a certain type of tone (select the coating and you get different sounds - crisp, bright, mellow, etc)EarnieBall - always a great string. they are super cheap - which means you can afford to keep a fresh pair on at all times (seriously - 3 for 10! Nickel wound! it can't get better than that!)1Now my absolute go-to stringI've been playing guitar - classical, steel acoustic, acoustic electric, electric - since 1984 and these are hands-down the best electric strings I've ever used. For my play style, which is quite varied (I'll play everything from punk to flamenco), the versatility of these babies cannot be overstated. They play so smoothly and hold their tune shockingly well, even right after stringing. The tone along the entire length of the neck is terrific. No loss of dynamics at either end of the fret board. Smooth bends and just an all around great feel and sound. All in all, I'll buy these again...and again...and again.5Nice set of strings, probably not worth the extra costI like D'Addario strings. I've been using their "XL Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings, Light Top/Heavy Bottom, 8 String Gauge 10-74" for several years now on my Ibanex RG8. I've always been a little disappointed that there isn't enough tension on my low 8th string, tuned to a low E. I get fret buzz with it. I hesitated on these because I worried that the thicker gauge wouldn't fit through the machine head. Plus they cost more than double. Finally I decided it was time to try them.Bottom line: not that much different from the cheaper 10-74s.Sound: I can't tell a difference.Gauge: I definitely prefer the 80 over the 74 (and would probably prefer something heavier than 80), but I do not like that the rest of the strings are lighter, particularly the low B and E.Does the 80 fit in the machine head: yes! (the last couple inches are tapered and that tapered part fits through; the rest of the 80 gauge string does not, but it's actually just the perfect amount to wind the string).Value: more than I want to pay, not worth the extra cost. Now, I'll probably buy these again because I like the 80 gauge string for the low E, and maybe enough that it's an acceptable trade off to having lower gauges on the other 7, but I don't feel like I've totally converted to a new set. For now I see these as a more expensive string set that doesn't meet the expectation set by the price. I think these are a little overrated.4Great value so far...Just a simple toaster but what a pleasure to prepare a bagel or toast without having to turn the oven on to use the broiler. Works great. Looks good. Not deluxe, very few bells/whistles but it makes great toast and bagels. I'm happy!4Impressive StringsVery impressed. Excellent strings. Now I understand the hype around this product. First of all, the strings are noticeably louder than other strings both playing through an amp or playing unplugged. That alone is worth their price.I got the "hybrid" set, also called light/heavy. Meaning, the bottom 3 strings are light and the top three are from a heavy set. We guitar players have been experimenting with mixing string gauges from different sets for a long time. But this is way more convenient and cost effective. For those who have not tried hybrid string sets, please do yourself a favor and try it. It is absolutely the best of both worlds because you can have a more balanced string set for both string bending/soloing and chord playing. It is not too soft or too hard, just right in the middle. An even better benefit of this hybrid set is the ability to tune down without losing too much tension - which obviously is a problem with lighter string sets.Note about hybrid sets: Depending on how your guitar nut is cut, you might have to modify it to receive the thicker bass strings. If the nut is cut for 10s, it will probably work just fine. Just make sure to use a lubricant for the strings to move freely thus reducing tuning issues. If it's cut specifically for for 9s you might really have to file the slots (most guitars are cut for 10s though). Not a difficult job, just need a bit of material removed. You do not want to go deep on the slots, just want to make them a bit wider. Really easy to do, can even use the new strings as "files" (like using a dental floss on the slots, just be gentle using light movements) if you do not have the right tools. But if you are insecure about it, better take the guitar to a luthier because if you remove too much nut material you can ruin your guitar's ability to be set up properly.I will be buying this D'Addario NYXL strings from now on.5Great strings that keep their tone and very durableWhen I dropped down to a 7 string from an 8 I knew i wanted to try some some different strings other than Ernie Ball. I had D Addario strings on my acoustic and knew the tone was nice and that they were durable. fast forward about a year, I m changing my strings over to my second set of these, never broke a single string, and the tone and tuning held up very well to my aggressive heavy metal shredding.Bottom line is, you get what you pay for, I m willing to cough up $30-60 a year for these (depending on how much I play) cause they hold up well and they sound awesome. I ve tried a few string companies like Ernie Ball, GHS, DR, Dunlop, none compare to the tone and durability of D Addario. I play the 11-64 gauge.5Worth the priceI got these NYXL strings for my short-scale electric guitar. They are really nice strings with fast attack and some nice mids and lots of detail. They also require very little stretching. Once on the guitar and they stay in tune very well. They are also very good for bends. They are well made and consistent between packs. They all come in a single bag (which is supposed to be environmentally friendly). Fortunately, the ball ends are all color coded and a chart on the back specifies the thickness and order of each string. So long as you follow the color codes, installing them should be no problem. If you have a Floyd rose where you have to cut the ball ends off, I d remove and install one string at a time and then tune them all up at the end (just to save confusion). As well as the strings, you also get a circular NYXL sticker in every pack.ConclusionA great set of strings that might require some work the first time you install them. The only negative is that they require a little work when setting up. You can t just switch from regular d addario XL s. The string tension is different and the strings oscillate a little more. You will have to intonate your guitar and move the saddles a little further back than with stock XL s so check how much room you have to spare for the saddles. On a strat you can easily end up at the limit requiring you to either raise the action or go up a half size.ConclusionBearing in mind that they cost about three times the price of standard strings and the extra work setting up they aren t perfect. But they do sound better and last longer. I found that they are about 50% better than the cheaper strings. So I think they are worth it if you re willing to put in the effort and don t mind the extra cost. These are my favorite strings for the really nice tone and longevity and stability.5Nice feel, smidge more mids or cut through, don't need as much stretching when installingI've been using the D'Addarios of this same gauge for years (EXL115) and decided to give these a try. I just put them on my guitar a few days ago, so I'll likely come back with an update later on to give a review on their life. But initially I've noticed they didn't require nearly the amount of stretching I have to do quite alot of with the EXL115s when I first put them on. That's a nice plus for me. Presumably they will stay in tune a little better too, time will tell. The tension also feels a little more evenly spread across the strings to me, which affects the feel nicely but not night and day thankfully...and bending is a tad easier I think. What I want to see is how long they last compared to the EXL115s, so I will try to come back in a month or two to update based on that. They are 2-3x the price of the EXL115s though, so ideally you can try to save a few bucks by buying these in 3pks or if Amazon lists any as used/like-new due to opened or damaged packaging. I'd like to give The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars right now is because I'm not yet sure they are totally worth the price...though I think how long they last will help me determine that.Update - 3 weeks later - I am loving these strings. Bumping up my review from 4 to 5 stars. There's something about the tone and feel that is perfect for me. At this point I am thinking I will be switching to these strings on my guitars. Hoping they will last as long as they claim. Still think the price is a smidge high but not if they last significantly longer than their standard line of strings I suppose. I will try to come back and update how long they last for me.5WARNING: ADDICTIVEI saw the review about these being better but not THAT MUCH better and wanted to hear the difference for myself. Oh man, there's no telling how much that decision is going to cost me because once I heard the difference I don't want to go back to the regular D'Addarios. Not that the regulars were or are bad, but these stay fresh much longer for someone like me who doesn't play a 4-hour show every night. I'm a bedroom player and probably always will be. Each set of these easily lasts me a month. On top of that, they really do stay in tune better and sustain longer. They don't just bend easier, they maintain a stronger vibration during bends than regular strings. So now my plan is to buy one set every pay period (two weeks) and that should give me a supply that I won't have to worry about. I highly recommend them.5Honestly great string.I really like the tone. I like a fairly bright string. These sound great no matter the genre I play. Less of a scooped midrange than other strings. Better highs. They seem more articulate than some strings I have used. Don't think they last as long as elixir strings but they sound good. They remind me of a classic D'Addario string for sure, but with added brightness like a Slinky or nanoweb Elixer...they do this without loosing the good lows that XLs are known for. Very articulate strings that are not at all muddy through my various amps. I like them. One of my new favorites. I just wish they lasted longer at this price point. They cost 3x as much as slinkys and twice as much as standard XLs but are good.5
