This case seemed to be a great idea for my sonThis case seemed to be a great idea for my son. However, the inside flap that holds the reeds is attached with very small plastic hinges. After several weeks of daily use and travel in a backpack, these hinges broke. While the case still closes and functions with the humidifying aspect, the reeds are no longer secured in the case.1Sturdy and secure (And a handy tip!)I've knocked this case around, dropped it, accidentally bumped it off my table, it's rock solid and the reeds stay in place, and the humidifier packs keep them nice and stable. I like to break in 3-4 reeds at a time so I'm never without a "good" reed, and this is perfect for that.Handy tip: A friend advised me to mix up a spray bottle with some water and a capful of Listerine. Lightly spray your reeds with this mixture at least once a week, to prevent reed halitosis!5Looks like a fakeHaven t even opened the box yet because it looks like a fake. The entire box printing appears to have been done about 1 inch shifted to the left. As a result, the top says ario, instead of D Addario. Next line says ED CASE. The missing letters are on the side and back.Reminds me of the fake North Face gloves we bought a couple of years ago...I mean ORTH FAE gloves. This was supposed to be a Christmas gift and I m kinda out of time, so I ll have to make a trip to a music store and rebuy. Whether this case is a fake, or whether this packaging is a reflection of their quality control, it s a lose-lose situation.2very goodI do think these cases make a difference, even if it is subtle. First, I'm a bassoonist. Case is nice and big to give tons of room to breathe, stable and sturdy, and the pins are not solid but have channels so air can get in the tube. Reeds seem to be the same day after day. In the early process of making a reed, breaking it in, and letting it stabilize, I think these cases can prevent some of that. Often I open the case in the morning and all of my reeds start immediately crackling like newly formed blanks do. This suggests that they haven't aired out and adjusted or settled in overnight. However once reeds are completely stable and settled (wouldn't crackle as they dry out anymore), I have found this case to prevent warped corners and other strange humidity effects. At the same time, the case is about as expensive (or cheaper) than the basic fox plastic case so you might as well try it. Do be careful that you open the cases at least once a day to be safe - they will mold otherwise, even without the humidity packs in there - they seal air tight. Also, I'd like to be able to choose the humidity pack that comes with a new case, I use the 54%. I use this one because I found that it just keeps the reeds stable, without having them almost soaked. One more caveat with this though is that you will need to bring your water with you. I played an audition where I had put the wet/soaked reed in the case for the ~10 minutes walk around before you play. When I got on stage and pulled the reed out the case had done a wonderful job of drying it out!4Highly Recommended For Serious PlayersAbsolutely love this reed case. I initially bought just one for my tenor but I'm more than likely gonna get another to go in the alto case as well. I've had basic reed savers before but this one completely keeps the reeds from warping and the humidity packs must be working because honestly it feels like a new reed each time but you can get the low register to sing right away unlike when it's actually a fresh reed. It's certainly worth a try if you're a serious player.5Works well, but avoid the Rico replacement humidity packsThis is a nice reed case. The only thing I don't like about it is that it's a little larger than I need it to be, since I only play Bb soprano clarinet.... but it's not a big deal. For the humidity packs, do yourself a favor and do not buy the $6 Rico packs. For merely $9-$10, you can get 10 packs:10 Pack of Boveda Humidipak 72% 8 Gram Humidity Packethttp://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004QTSIXM/ref=oh_details_o00_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1These packs are identical to the one I received with the two Rico cases I bought (one for me, one for my daughter)... literally identical (when you tear open the Rico package, inside is a Boveda pack).4Good reed case, reeds are lasting longer. It's better than the cases that come with reeds. And it's better than the old kind that just have a flat piece that's perfect for your reed to curl up at the edges to allow moisture to escape. Is it perfect? No. I find the humidity maintenance to be a bit lacking... I don't know if it's the quality of the humidity packets or if the case isn't properly sealed, but the entire system is only ok. My reeds do last longer in this setup, and I can now play them all the way to a dead sound before I notice any warping on the tip. Overall I'm pretty happy. I do wish there were a better system to maintain humidity like a rechargeble long-lasting sponge of some kind. Maybe some day we'll get there!4High Quality, but FragileI purcgased this about a year ago and it definitely was a great buy it helos to keep my reeds safe, and they last longer. The case is very fragile though, within the first week of having it it fell off of my stand and since it was open the tray holding the reeds in broke, it now doesnt stay clipped inside and it just sits there, other than that the case has held up pretty well over the past year or so. Another problem ive had is that sometimes the cases hinge closes down in my reeds, (I play bari and the reeds fit with very little clearance) and it killed off a whole set of four reeds, I'm pretty sure this happens onlg because of the fact that my case is broken. but this is definitely a good purchase and I would recommend it.4My son loves this for his clarinet & sax reeds.Got this for my son for 5th grade band. He was killing reeds, in part because of learning, but I also remember the hurry getting ready before band started. When ordering another large box of reeds Amazon recommended this, it has made a HUGE difference in how long his reeds last. I haven't tried using a reed that was in so I don't know if it has made a huge difference with anything else, but for use it has significantly increased the life of his reeds and that makes it worth every penny. It's way cheaper to buy the refills Boveda 72% Rh 2-Way Humidity Control, 8 g, 10 Pack the $13 pack will last use about 18 months, and that is way cheaper then having to be decent reeds more often.I also love how big it is because he can keep both his clarinet & sax reeds in it and more then 1 size of each if he wants/needs.5Great for multi instrument playersGreat for those who play many different Reed instruments. Holds all sizes of reeds and keeps them humidified to prevent "potato chipping". I feel like after heavy isage the matte finish might turn shiny instead but the case itself is great. Having something to keep my many reeds in helps a lot when I'm playing upward of 6 different reed instruments. As a pit player it has never come more handy to keep all my reeds together!5
