Customer Reviews

It is not only my favorite, but one my 10 yThis was a replacement CD for one lost in a rental car. It is not only my favorite, but one my 10 y.o. god-daughter's favorites. She always goes through my CDs when I visit looking for this one and is always good for a listen through or two. It was, as billed, brand new, arrived quickly, and in perfect condition.5Absolutely breathtaking!I saw David Garrett on PBS the other night and I was completely taken by his style. His music is incredibly fascinating. I got the CD a week ago and haven't stopped listening to it. I don't know yet which track is my favorite. I like them all. I love the way he fuses classical tunes with rock sounds. I've never thought that classical music would go so well with rock. Smooth Criminal is surprisingly good. "Who wants to live forever" is soft and sad at the same time. Also, "Rock Prelude" and "Thunderstruck" are examples of the wonderful creativity of David. Those are powerful pieces, filled with energy that is easily transmitted to the listener. I hightly recommend this CD to anyone that enjoys what I call "modern classical" .5Amazing!We bought this CD in 2010, and we still occasionally listen to the songs. My favorites are Vivaldi's Summer, He's A Pirate, and Smooth Criminal. I really love how he uses violin to render such modern melodies like AC/DC's Thunderstike. With such an awesome instrument like violin, these melodies really come into life with a new and beautiful soundstage. The album art is actually a mini eight pages catalog that has some information about each song and composition. There is a tiny flyer inside which you can use to get/download free stuff like ring tones from David Garrett website, but I've never tried it. If you've listened to the samples in David Garrett (Amazon MP3 Exclusive Version) and like his style, you will enjoy every bit of this CD.5Smiling the entire timeThe CD arrived in good shape and plays well. I didn't really care as much for violin until I saw David on youtube. David is a gem. I know some people hate crossover - but he does it very well. It actually makes you want to listen to his classical stuff too. I bought 4 of his CDs and there is some duplication of his more popular pieces...so pay attention to that when you buy. (But this is common for all popular artists really.)5good...just a little too "new age" for meI love David Garrett's music...I was just a little disappointed in a couple of the choices on the cd...it's good though! I should have stayed with his more classical renditions.....4Brilliant.While some interpretations and an eclectic melange of classic and contemporary pieces on this CD may not please everyone, there is no denial that as a violinist Garrett is brilliant. Personally, I love it.5Breathtaking, gorgeous music -- unbelievable talent hereIf you like amazing music, you must get this CD. He never disappoints, and is the singularly most talented musician I've ever heard, or heard of. (He's also gorgeous, so that doesn't hurt!) I've been lucky enough to see him in person in US concerts 3 times -- once from front row center -- and he's as amazing in person as on the CD's. (At one point on stage, the other band members left the stage, and a single spotlight from above shown down on David as he played, all by himself, "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." It was so amazingly beautiful that my friend and I both had tears in our eyes from the sheer beauty of it.) I have most of David Garrett's CD's, and will buy any new one he puts out. The mix of classical and rock is amazing. (My nephews had to tell me when a song David played had actually previously been done by Metallica, or AC/DC, or Nirvana -- groups I'd never listened to in my life.) Anyone who appreciates actual talent in a musical performance, instead of some insipid character prancing around in their underwear, should buy this CD! Right now!5AmazingI love this CD. I would give it 10 stars, if possible! All music I like moves me in some way, but it has been years since any came along that did so in a way that I could just fall into it. Generally instrumentals don't do it. Mostly because its the combinations of the vocals, and music-the over all feel of a song that moves me. I don't listen to lyrics-most of the time the vocals, and music put off a different feel than the lyrics. Example: Pearl Jam, where the lyrics are emotionally dark, but Eddy Veder has the sexiest voice, and the instrumentals great ("Black" is a good example). I like the quote: "Music expresses that which cannot be put into words and cannot remain silent" which makes my mp3 player the equivelant of a diary, except noone else can understand it;)I expected this to be more of a relaxing cd, something I could listen to while writing without getting distracted. What a pleasant surprise! The whole cd is wonderful (although "Smooth Criminal" didn't do much for me). For myself the best songs were: "Aint no sunshine"-its slow, and jazzy, and when he plays the beautiful high note, that just lingers, I'm a goner (anyone know who the horn player is)? "Gypsy Dance" starts out slow, and I almost dismissed this song, but when it took off, I actually laughed! Not because the song is funny, but because its so happy! Garrett is one of the fastest violinists, playing 13 notes per second, and this ability is really experienced here. "Chelsea Girl" was written by Garrett for his on/off again girlfriend, and it has a certain sweet sadness to it. I swear at the end, the violin says "I love you." *sniff.* "Nothing Else Matters" - Even if you don't like Metallica, or ever heard them, this is a gorgeous song! Garrett puts the same passion into Metallica as he does Bach and it shows. Lastly, "Who Wants To Live Forever" which is simply amazing!I also ordered "Rock Symphonies." If you've ever wondered what a 290 year old stratovarous, and electric guitar would sound like together, you'll enjoy it as well. I know many people aren't fond of crossovers, but he does draw the younger kids in-first with his edgy sound, and look, then the classics. Who knows maybe one day we'll see kids running around playing air violin, instead of air guitar, ok and maybe one 45 yr old kid-but only once, to "The 5th" ha! Recommend highly.Music is the mediator between the spiritual and the sensual life. ~Ludwig van Beethoven5DAVID GARRETT, The greatest violinist of today!DAVID GARRETT puts so much of himself into each piece that I wonder how he gets through the long concerts he performs regularly. I understand he is performing or flying to a performance at least 300 days a year. Your millions of fans want you healthy, HAPPY, and able to bring a little of the joy you show on your face with each song and especially when you 'play' with the audiences. Wacth U Tube, you'll see what I mean. Then go buy several albums!5So glad I bought this!I cannot recommend this enough... If 10 stars were an option, I would give it all 10. I have listened to many versions of many of the pieces on this CD and none come close to demonstrating the passion and depth of Garrett. I have heard the term "achingly beautiful" and have never before found anything to merit it until I heard David Garrett play. "Who Wants to Live Forever" is a perfect example, as is "Nothing Else Matters." I only wish he would record more CDs which include the slower pieces, such as Clair de Lune, Smile and Over the Rainbow. This is not to say that the faster pieces aren't equally wonderful, however. His Zorba and Carmen are outstanding. Also, many of his recordings are available only on German Amazon, which is a shame for his American fans.5
