Dead Space is a Very Good Game! This game is like Doom 3, but with better Graphics and advanced combat controls.I especially like the 360 deg. view you have of your character and the surroundings. They have stores and upgrade benches in the game, where you can buy weapons, health packs, ammo, power nodes and stasis modules, which power your ability too slow time. You can also usekinesis too, move objects without touching them. This ability doesn't need to be replenished so,you can use it as long as you wont, which is cool.I'm Using a mouse and Keyboard ,and the controls are mostly the basic W/S & A/D for movement andAiming and shooting is done with the mouse.I think, it's a pretty good game.I haven't had any problem with the security, and loading of the game, some people are talking about. I just entered the code on the manual, like i do for most games..)5A Classic HorrorUpon playing Dead Space, I had sentenced myself to roughly eight hours of the most emotionally straining time of my life. With an original story, interesting plot, terrifying enemies and beautiful combat, Dead Space ranked amongst one of the greatest horror games of all time.GRAPHICSVisually, the game is great. It's not the most beautiful game on the market, but it's environments are stunning. The haunting, scary environment of the USG Ishumura sets a great atmosphere of horror, making players feel tense and vulnerable throughout the entirety of the game. What truly stands out visually, however, is the character designs. From the gruesome features of the most sickening necromorphs to the rusted, bloodstained armor of Isaac Clarke's Engineering Suits, the models look absolutely incredible. However, playing on the PC won't give you much of an edge over the console graphics. Aside from a few subtle things such as a name tag on Isaac's Level 1 suit and more crisp textures on the designs, the Xbox 360 and PS3 graphics are mostly on par with the PC, almost to the point of hardly any noticeable difference whatsoever.GAMEPLAYThe combat of Dead Space consists of using your weapons (which can be upgraded extensively) to strategically dismember the limbs of your enemies. Various types of enemies take more or less firepower to be dismembered. This isn't your typical shoot a zombie in the head and you're good type of game; you have to truly check your shots, and on higher difficulties, you must watch your ammunition very closely. If you're out of ammo, then you better pray that your melee abilities will sufice to take out the rest of the enemies until you can get more health or ammo. You can purchase weapons and armor through the in-game stores, as well as upgrade them extensively, enhance your abilities, and purchase electrical power nodes to open more areas of the ship. However, there are two downsides to the combat. The first and foremost is that after a few chapters, you begin to realize that the gameplay doesn't really change. The formula stays the same: aim, shoot, complete your objective, repeat. While this isn't necessarily a terrible, game-breaking feature, it would have been nice to see more changes in the gameplay. The second issue in the game is exclusive to the PC. The aiming is very clunky and choppy. Decreasing the graphics to their lower settings helps minimally, and I found it increasingly difficult to progress through the PC edition of the game. I don't know if the game allows controller support through the PC, but if you plan on using the PC to play this game, be prepared for much frustration, or at least try to get an Xbox 360 or PS3 controller to play with.STORYThe story of Dead Space is intriguing and dark. Told from the perspective of a survivor, Isaac Clarke, you battle your way through the ship with your allies, trying to find out more about how the necromorph infection started, as well as find a way to escape. Isaac has an ulterior motive, however, as he wants to find his girlfriend who was on the ship when the infection started. However, this story - although very good - had some issues. First of all, Isaac's girlfriend hardly showed up or played any important role in the game at all, and I constantly found myself forgetting she was even part of the game until she'd randomly appear on a screen or around a corner. The characters are bland and uninteresting, and you can't connect with Isaac since he doesn't talk throughout the game (which changes in Dead Space 2). If a character dies, you simply don't care, and the plot twists at the end are all too predictable and boring. I honestly felt as though I connected with the characters in the collectible audio logs more than the actual characters in the game, and most of the characters I found annoying and wanted to see them die almost the entire game. These facts aside, the central plot is compelling and after completing the game, you can gain more logs that expand deeper into the Dead Space universe.AUDIO DESIGNOne of the best parts of this game is the stellar sound design. From the expertly composed horror soundtrack to the haunting screams of a leaping necromorph, the game draws you in by your ears. Most of the jump scares are derived simply by the audio. Playing the game without sound is like playing a completely different game; it's just not the same. Playing the game alone in the dark with a headset on makes the experience all the better.FINAL VERDICTGreat gameplay, a compelling story, incredible character designs and outstanding audio make Dead Space one of the best horror games on the market. If you have a PC, I strongly suggest you use a console controller as to prevent frustration with the clunky aiming system. If you have and Xbox 360 or a PS3, you aren't missing out on anything. Dead Space is one of those games that you pay and immediately know it as a classic. This is a game that will be remembered for decades to come, and has helped shape the look of the horror games we play today. While it's slow paced, if you like a good story with great combat and blood-chilling horror, look no further, for Dead Space is a must-buy for any gamer out there, landing this game with a great 9/10.4Good Third Person ShooterI'll try and keep this short and sweet so there won't be any pros and cons, though I do tend to look for them myself from time to time. 3rd person i.e. you tend to stand behind the guy instead of looking down the barrel so to speak. This has a good mix of figuring out which way to go whilst looking for things to collect to help along the way keeping an eye out for things that tend to jump out atcha. Once again I made the mistake,if you will, of starting with DS2 first then realized it's better to start with DS1 then progress. That said it is a great single player for doing just that. I do recommend going to DS1 first to get a feel for it.Over all a good game for what it is, decent graphics, decent story line and fun once you get into it. It does download to Origin who has come a long way, along with Steam, in keeping things up to date and playable with patches and that sort of thing.4Very addicting and violent...me likeI got this game for the PC the other day and beat it in a couple of days. I logged about 13 hours of play time on medium. It is very addicting and easy to play for hours. The upgrade system is neat. The graphics and environments are great. The game gets started right away as you're just dropped into the action. It was amazing when I first entered the cockpit region/bridge room of the USG Ishimura, I was stunned how space looked outside the windows with the sun outside the window and floating chunks of rock. This game just looks REALLY good on its high settings. I haven't played it on low visual settings, but I wouldn't think they'd be too bad either. I like the change of gameplay with the zero gravity segments, small telekinesis sections and walks outside the ship's hull or other no oxygen locations. Audio wise, it's immersing too. The sound altering effect outside the ship is crazy. Can't hear the necromorphs sneaking up on you in space if you don't expect them. I really enjoy this game. I'll play through this game again on the more difficult settings. You can play through a second time on a cleared game save and continue with all your previous game upgrades and unlocked stuff. I highly recommend this game and it's cheap for PC. I had a problem with the game encountering an error on startup. I did some researching and this led me to gaming controllers or other peripherals could lead to this error on launching the program. It launch fine before for a while, but I have an unofficial psx/n64 adaptoid controller that doesn't always work. Well I unplugged it and tried launching the game and the game launched fine :-). I play the game with my belkin gaming pad with the left hand and mouse on the right. I mapped the keys as best as I could. There are certain quick keys that are permanent if you had a controller I think. I just worked around it. I just can't quick switch weapons. This is a game that you shouldn't pass up if you like survival-action horror in space. The story is really interesting too and there are lots of plot twists.5Enjoyed the movie Alien? I think you'll like this....I bought Dead Space when it first came out, and initially was put off by the 3rd person view. After playing many 1st person shooters, the view in D.S. seemed to be "blocked" by the character. The other complaint that I had was that the keyboard controls seemed unorthodox. They were definitely different than most shooter key assignments. I put the game aside and forgot about it.After a year sitting on my shelf, for some reason I was inspired to try it again. I was determined to simply push my way through any problems with the view. To my surprise, after completing about 2 or 3 levels of the game, I had no problems with the view, and the keyboard assignments were working just fine. The graphics of the game are very good, but what really blows me away are the excellent sound effects and atmosphere that is generated. I've never explored any environment in any game that filled me with such tension and dread as I round each corner. Play it in a dark room with a pair of good headphones on, and you'll see what I mean. One other game element that I find appealing is that your character can upgrade weapons and equipment by judicious use of "power nodes" found in various locations. I liked that feature in BioShock, and Dead Space improves the execution of that idea.Good, riveting - albeit appalling - fun.5Why have i not played this yet?I ordered this game because a friend recommended it to me. If you are a fan of survival games; silent hill- or you like zombie horror games; resident evil and doom: then you will really enjoy this game. This game brings the best of three games and mixes it into one. This game is dark, eerie, and damn scary at times. The enemies are pretty easy to kill at first but it sure gets your heart pumping and the adrenaline going. My first scary moment was when i walked into a well detailed narrow hallway and came across a body of some mutant looking creature, i got too close and it jumped up and attacked me. This kind of excitement and terror hasnt came back to me since the original resident evil games back when i was a child. I wished i had picked this game up a lot sooner and i cannot wait to play Dead Space 2 and Dead Space 35Fatal Flaw on PC Version Level 9I've played through Dead Space probably 20 times on Xbox 360 on all difficulty levels up to and including impossible. I recently got a computer capable of handling this game at high res with all graphic bells & whistles set to max, and I wanted to give it a go on PC to experience the mouse. An interesting relearning experience and fun, but this game has an absolutely fatal flaw on level 9. I've run into this twice in three playthroughs so far. There is a missing power circuit (battery) right after you kill the enhanced brute that kills Hammond behind the glass. I never knew about this until I played up to level 9 and it simply wasn't there. Where the circuit is supposed to be is very obvious and in plain sight, it is not even slightly hidden. In fact it doesn't even qualify as a puzzle, could've just been left out of the game. It's impossible to turn back and pick one up from a previous point because the game design prevents it.This glitch has been very well known for a very long time. Search around forums, blogs, etc. and you'll find lots of posts about it.I can't believe this was never patched, for how big of a game this is. If you run into this, the only possible workaround is to return to Chapter 8 (or earlier).Still a great game, but again it's ridiculous that this was never patched, considering it's frequent, glaring, and fatal. Save your game late in level 8 and set the save aside just in case!3Dead Space 1 - A Great Horror game, where it all startedThis is probably one of my favorite Horror based games out their, next to Silent Hill or Resident Evil series. But Dead Space is in space, where no one will hear your screams. lol This all starts with Isaac Clarke, an engineer, and it hits the ground running from the start! I have owned the second and third game in the series for a long time, but I'd never played the original. Its just as good IMO and the controls and AI in this original have been carried over to the newer ones in the series. The Nightmare Begins, with your character, Isaac Clarke, an engineer on spacecraft USG Ishimura. He's not a soldier, or a warrior, but does a good job at all three. Poor Isaac has to save his crew and get to the way points while dealing with several obstacles. This is a classic , if you are into the horror genre you should not be without this IMO. This game was delivered on time and i had no troubles installing. I would recommend to anyone looking for a good scary game.5A great game!I watched a lot of reviews to get an idea of what the game was about and if it was something I'd want to invest in. I'm glad I bought it because it kept me on the edge of my seat most of the time. I really liked the missions required to accomplish tasks in order to progress throughout the game. The zero-gravity sections were cool and took a bit of getting used to. But once I did get used to them, it was a lot of fun jumping from one wall to the next and figuring out how to best get to the destination. The ship's interior and lighting really make for a creepy and tense environment. You hear lots of sounds and you're not sure where they're coming from, which just adds to the creepiness and intensity factor. If you have a weak stomach and don't like blood and gore, than buy something else because this game is loaded with lots of blood, guts and gore. The only thing that was a minor nuisance to me was the position of the camera. It's located just behind Isaac Clark's (the main character that you will be playing)right shoulder and took a bit of maneuvering to get comfortable with. All in all, this is a great game if you are looking for something to play that is creepy, keeps you on the edge of your seat, and has missions and tasks to complete in order to progress to the next level. I can honestly say, I will never look at another vent or duct in the same way, ever.I'm looking forward to playing DS2.5Couldn't ask for a better gameI have read and re-read the varying comments here and I scratch my head in disbelief. I installed Dead Space 3 and played the first few missions then I decided to go back and purchase the entire series because the story is so compelling. Other than the somewhat dated 2008 graphics of DS1 I have been completely satisfied with it. The necromorphs are more gruesome than the ones in DS3!! The mouse controls are just fine for me. The game has a certain unique feel to it. If you like science fiction and semi horror games you'll love this one. It is a GREAT single player game. It would not be a good multilayer because it is rich in individual experience - for loners,no doubt. Also, it doesn't make you work endlessly for nothing as it offers a save feature that is very reasonable. I think the series deserves many awards. I can't wait to Dead Space 4, after I complete 2 and 3. Quality game, IMO.5
