Another young adult series that is full of action, romance, betrayal, suspense, and plot twists...This series was great. It s another young adult series that is full of action, romance, betrayal, suspense, and plot twists it s basically a soap opera. It had a typical young adult storyline a young teenage heroine makes has a big, life-changing, world-shaking, event happen and she has to then save a corrupted world lead by a corrupted leader. Even though it followed that main YA plot, it still had plenty of plot twists, plenty of unexpected turns, and amazing characters. I could read these novels all day, every day mostly because I love seeing where this sort of plot could lead. Because there are so many of these YA novels, it s interesting to see where each one could end up because one decision made different conjures up a brand new ending.Anyway, one thing I loved about this series in particular is that there was no love triangle. Yes, I do enjoy love triangles with all their back and forth feelings and fights for love, but sometimes, I just need a break. This series was my break. There was Tris and Four, no in between party trying to break them up. No, there was none of that, and it was glorious. It was great knowing who Tris would end up with, and that gave more time for the plot to heat up.Divergent was my favorite out of the three books. It gave me time to fall in love with the characters, but it stopped before I started to imagine ripping their heads off. It had Four and Tris s relationship blossom and become real, and it had plenty of the action scenes and plot twists and there was just the perfect amount of everything.Insurgent was a different story. About five chapters into this book, I was screaming internally. It made me scream, cry, laugh, and rage, so that meant it was a really good book. But all Tris does in that book is frustrate you and make bad decisions that cause rifts between her and Four. Needless to say, I was raging plenty during the entirety of that book. So I loved it.Allegiant was a lot. It was my first time reading from Four s point of view, and it was confusing at times. It switched between him and Tris almost every chapter, and it was in first person, so I never really knew who I was reading from. Numerous times I had to look back and see whose point of view I was reading from. Other than that small flaw, it was great. The plot twists were giant, completely unexpected, and book-changing. (There s one in particular I m thinking about.)I really enjoyed this entire series, and I ll definitely read it again someday.5GreatMy 10 year old daughter loved this series so much, she re-read it in a week after just finishing it in two weeks. From what she says, it's one of the best books she's read, more than Hunger games, but possibly better than Maze Runner.Book Four was not intriguing at all when she started reading. Didn't really get when it was written within the series, it confused her. I looked it up for her and then she forced herself to read it through. The second time she read the entire series, she went right through book Four with a greater appreciation and enjoyed it. Don't be surprised if younger readers don't understand what book Four is. They may and may not get through it. It is written different than the rest of the books, as my daughter said.5Page turner - make sure you have timeBetter than the movie - - Not sure I would have wanted to read the book had I seen the movie first. The book is so much better. So even if you saw the movie first and were uncertain as to whether or not to read the book, I would suggest it is well worth the read. I finished the first 3 books in less than 2 weeks. It would have been faster, but I had to work and needed to get some sleep. Really, I couldn't stop reading and stayed up later than I should have because I wanted to know what was going to happen. I am working on the last book which is more a collection of short stories that is a prequel to the first 3 books. Whether you read it the prequel first or last it is more of a preference, for me I am just as happy reading it last. The characters are well developed, and is is an interesting take on society. I don't want to give it all away so I will leave it at that. If you like books that have a story about human nature, wrapped in suspense and mixed with a bit of sci-fi, then you will likely enjoy this series.5building up a world only to tear it downI had never heard of these books and accidentally watched Insurgent the movie one day and thought it was kind of weird and confusing. Later I learned that it was actually a trilogy and I had watched the second one first and had no background/basis for any of the story. I am one who likes the books 99.9% of the time so I decided to go ahead and buy this series so I could read it and I did in 2 days (all 3 books plus the Four mini books).Divergent - Like many others, I really enjoyed this book and loved the world that Roth created with all the character background. I feel like I need to go into a ton of detail since I'm late to the party and a lot of people already have. I totally bought into the romance between Tris and Tobias/Four (enigmatic, strong, but broken young man attempting to be courageous and try to save others, including those who hurt him).Four - I really liked this addition, it's probably my second favorite of the 4 'books'. Since I am a girl, I don't know how men think inside their heads, but I really enjoyed the prequel and additional explanation of the world - faction, initiation, why Eric and Four didn't get a long and their initiation class, etc.Insurgent - The book was interesting, but I still liked Divergent best. It did hold my interest and I continued to read it even though I did get annoyed with some of the characters. I liked learning that there were more divergents and that there were brave people attempting to infiltrate the Erudites/rebel-Dauntless and fight for 'freedom' or order in their world. Tris was a guilt-ridden teenager who kept it in instead of talking about it with others which is what I would have done, but I supposed she has learned to be more introverted from her upbringing.Allegiant - Honestly, I was not a huge fan. I thought it was a let down experience after this world was created and built up only to have it be a complete fabrication and something that could be 'reset'. It would have been cool for them to go outside the wall and had the fringe people come back and fight with them or something of that sort, but just having this all powerful government in the ORD airport was really weird. I just couldn't get into it. Also, knowing there were other cities that weren't 'experiments' allowing them to just do these huge experiments on thousands of people didn't sound plausible. Even though Four got all weird and kind of pathetic in the middle of the book, I still hated him hurting so badly at the end. I did like that Roth added some parts about love, that Tris realized she chose him and chose to love him no matter what and they chose each other through the good and bad times. I did not understand why Tobias would ask for Tris' opinion and then not even care what she said, but also, she should have worked on her explanations and been more open with him also - perhaps I'm expecting too much of 2 teenagers that have been traumatized and probably have PTSD.Overall, I just got them a week ago and I read all of them in the first 2 days (hard to do working full time and having 2 babies but I hate not knowing what happens... then after Allegiant I was like meh... I guess I kept hoping that it would get better but then it was over and I felt kind of empty/unsatisfied with the ending/how their world was utterly destroyed and made into something fictional even in it's own book. Since I finished I read Roth's blog on why she ended it the way she did and I understand why she had Tris' part the way it was, but I still think their world could have been built up more instead of suddenly becoming an 'experiment' and being confusing. I feel like it was like the Truman Show but nobody was flipping out other than Four about it (and his lack of real divergence which was weird too) and if my whole world was a hoax, I think I would have had needed some serious time to figure out how I felt about it all. After I read other's reviews, watched the movies in order, I re-read Divergent and Four and I still like them, but I would probably not read Allegiant again since it kind of ruins the whole experience for me as it tears their whole world apart and doesn't really feel 'finished' when the book is over. Something would have happened to the people running the experiment, they couldn't have been the only ones who were concerned about pure/damaged genes since someone obviously was funding the project. Confusing and inconclusive but I'll probably re-read Divergent and Four again... possibly Insurgent but avoid Allegiant.I liked Allegiant the movie better than the book, Four still was manly and determined to save everyone. I did like the Divergent book better than the movie. I can't really decide which version of Insurgent I like better, but I felt like the movie was kind of confusing, especially if you had no background from the first movie/had not read the books. They should definitely make a Four movie though featuring Theo James, he was a great Four character.3Divergent booksI noticed my box was sitting in the pouring rain (my mail person didnt put it in a bag or mailbox for whatever reason) and was a little concerned about the books inside. But to my surprise, the inside of the box wasnt soaked through and the books were wrapped in sealed plastic. This was the first instance where on a rainy day that my package wasnt in a bag. But at any rate, I'm genuinely satisfied with my purchase. I love the movies and now I have the books and have been engrossed in them. While some parts follow the movie closely, other parts are imprinted on different characters and for effective movie storytelling purposes, other parts left out or changed completely. Either way, I'm enjoying the books!5Really good series, could not put it down!I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading Divergent on my Kindle but It moved along at such a snappy pace that I finished it in a day and a half, something I had not done since the last Harry Potter book came out. I loved Divergent's story so much I immediately ordered the box set to finish the series. It did not disappoint, each book in the series carried the story along at a steady pace and explored many avenues of social levels and society in general. I won't give away the end but will say it was something not expected. I got turned off popular series after wading through Twilight and even Hunger Games was slow but this series kept me glued to the page until the very last word.5Read these books after seeing the moviesMost of the time people are encouraged to read the book and then see the movie. This time I think it's better to see the Divergent movies first, especially the first two. I think those are the truest to the themes in the books. The books help flesh out the characters, giving more insight into who they are and they help answer some of the questions about the scenes in the movies. Either way I enjoyed this series and I'm sorry to see it end. I think Veronica Roth is a talented writer. The last book in the series bogged down a little bit but overall it was good. And I am not a young adult by any means. I would recommend this to anyone who enjoys action/adventure stories even though the main characters are all teenagers.5A Must Read! You Won't Regret This Series! This set includes the trilogy, along with the extra book titled, "Four". I actually recommend reading Four first. It's the comets set. My 13 year old triplet boys started reading this series in school. They couldn't stop talking about it, so I bought this series for them, and I even read it myself. It's very, very good. The movie is pretty good too; although, the books are a lot more detailed. I highly recommend this series. I would caution for younger readers as the two main characters have some heated moments. Nothing that heavy, but on the line. I wouldn't want my 8 year old reading something like that. I hope this review has been helpful for the parents out there. All in all.. Definitely a great series! A Must Read!5Has the power to make me cry!I read that the author originally started writing this from Fours point of view. But then decided she wanted a female lead. When I saw the first movie i of course rushed out and bought this set. I tend to do that. The books almost always give so much more than the movies and these are true to that. I do have to saw the visuala in the movies are very good. And the books did not ruin the movies!I woukd suggest read Divergent, then Four before continuing on to Insurgent. Four gives you so much more to the Divergent and doesnt go past its time line. I think it would have turned out well being from Fours perspective but the author was probably right in deciding to create it from Triss's. I usually read series I love more than once. This one I have only read once because it really got to me at the end. I do get invested into the characters when I read, but the end of this series really got to me. I highly recommend this set!5Incredible book series! This series is absolutely amazing! I must admit, I was a little put off by these books at first. The length of the books gave me the impression that they were gonna be packed with unnecessary details, and that they were gonna be a slow read, so I was stalling reading these books for awhile. But when I actually started reading them, I was pleasantly surprised that my assumptions were not true at all! Don t judge a book by its length. I flew through about half the first book in one sitting. The plot in these books is excellent and I loved the characters. 10/10 series!5
