Customer Reviews

My new standardThese strings are sealed inside plastic with a silica packet. I love that. The two lowest strings are what you'd find in a set of 8's. So, you can still tune to a drop-D without the 6th string flapping around. I love that, too. If you can master the light touch it takes to play these strings you'll be in finger heaven. Bending is effortless and fun. I haven't had any problems with breakage, and I've been bending like crazy.Because of the extra thin high strings, I'd recommend using a lubricant at the nut and bridge saddles. Especially if you have sharp edges on your saddles. Personally, I use Planet Waves Lubrikit on all my guitars, regardless of string guage.I would put the quality of these strings next to Ernie Ball. From me that's saying a lot, since that was the only string I would pay money for, until now.5Like SpiderwebsI didn't even know they made .07 strings but these USA Dunlops are the ticket. You really notice the flexibility of the G-B-e strings when you start to do bends.I swear, the Big E string even bends. I put a set on my Tele and pre-stretched them, but you gotta take it easy on those 3 small strings, they really are microscopic.Stay in tune well, though and what's good enough for Billy Gibbons is more than good enough for me.Drop one on your tile and it looks like a crack.5Really low tension for ailing/aging/weak fingers. These 7s are pretty ridiculously light, but as an older guy who's been having trouble with the index finger on my left hand which is my fretting hand, these are a godsend. I can actually play again! I can bend strings with ease, and after a pretty short learning period (a couple weeks), I'm very comfortable with them and will be buying more. You'd think they're really susceptible to breaking, but I haven't broken anything yet and I bend things quite far. There's just so little tension that the strings have no difficulty taking it. I play these on a 2014 Gibson Les Paul Traditional Pro II (what a mouthful), and they sound fantastic through my Fender Blues Junior. I plan on adding a Marshall combo this summer, which I had put off because of the hand difficulty, but I see a DSL40CR in my future now, God willing. If you're having any joint or hand issues, or if you'd just like it to be a heck of a lot easier to play your guitar, give these a shot. Anderton's Music did a string shootout on Youtube between 8s, 9s and 10s, and neither of the guys got it right -- basically, when amplified it's very difficult to notice the differences between gauges. Rev. Willy has a new convert in his congregation.5Light like there is no string there!I love these stings! It takes some getting used to especially since I purchased the the 7's. If you only have one guitar...well, you may have to commit some time getting used to these. I am amazed at how effortless it is to bend and the fact that they really stretch...I mean really stretch. You will either love the versatility of these strings or you will hate them. If you have more than one guitar, put them on leave them and go back and forth with your riffs and you may find your style change a bit. I think they are worth a try and I will be trying other gauges soon! I am partial to Blue Steel Custom Light and my set ups did not change coming from 9's and when I tuned and stretched not a single string broke. Most likely you will be waiting for that dreaded ping pop, but don't worry they don't break under normal tuning. I found the sound to be very close to what I was used to with a bit more chime and a different kind of bite. Billy knows his strings!5With the 7s my guitar feels like running a hot knife though butter.I"m guitar playing that has been playing a left hand fender mustang since about 2012, But at the start of march of I decided I wanted to learn to play guitar right handed like everyone else so I bought a dean custom 450 guitar but I think it might of had 10s on it so I put 9s on it but it still didn't quite the way I like and I couldn't really cope with the tension on my hands anymore. So I got these Revered Willy guitar strings 7s. They feel really light and nice and easy to play. They do buzz but I don't really notice much when I'm running distortion. I've still got to let the guitar get use to the lighter strings and see where things go.I've have used these in the past in my lefty les paul 100. It felt really good but I didn't get the set up on it right so it had some intonation issues. That could of been resolved by a guitar tech setting it up. Although most guitar techs will look at you like your crazy for using such light strings. So I do my own guitar setups. Its a learning experience. I wouldn't want to do on a 1000+ guitar.I play in standard E standard tuning. I lean to rock/blues but I'm trying to expand more with rocksmith 2014 which I've been using since the first rocksmith came out.To end this review my opinion is guitar is the time you put in practicing lighter strings can lead to more guitar practice since the hands don't get as tired as fast with 9s or 10s. I recommended the 7s to someone just starting out with guitar and to take things slow and easy and develop technique. Then think about going to heavy strings if you feel these are too light.Have a nice day and THANK YOU DUNLOP FOR THE LIGHT GUITAR STRINGS!!!5You will probably need to totally change your guitars set upVery very disappointed. I was so excited to get these and give them a try. Ordered a set and had to wait an extra week for them to arrive. No explanation given. They finally came in today. I took out my best guitar, a custom built American made guitar that I paid a few thousand dollars on. Mohaghany body maple cap, 5 piece maple neck with ebony fretboard set up with .09 strings. Read that no adjustment would be needed. I put the strings on and they were not even strong enough to pull my neck straight. Strings buzzed on the frets. I adjusted my bridge. Still buzzing. I started playing around on upper frets just to get a feel and hear the sound. They felt great and about 20 seconds later the b string broke!I am so disappointed. I had such high hopes, so much so that I may be willing to throw away another six bucks to try again on a different guitar or see if I just got a dud set. I don t know but going from .09s I just thought maybe it would work.1You cain't go wrong wid tha Rev. Willy's!!!These strings are smoother than mouse p#$$y. Incredible bends, hold pitch and don't break unless you don't take care of your guitar.Edit: After some time using these strings on different guitars and different styles, I wanted to edit the review. They are even better than I first thought. They stay in tune incredibly well, even after a week not being played. I have not had one break, except tuning up a #8 and I torqued it too much. If you have arthritis as I do, consider these. The #8's have more punch than #10's I've played. You can develop a very light fretting touch with these. My hands don't hurt as much. I started out with 7's but moved up to 8's as my hands improved. May go to 9's. I've sold a couple of other guys on these.5Dunlop Rev Willy's Mexican Lottery Brand Strings.I've been curious about these strings for a while now, so I bit the bullet and tried a couple of sets out in the .007 gauge set. I installed them on a 1968 Telecaster and a 1995 American Standard Stratocaster.First off, I have to say that these strings are amazing! The feel is slinky and going from 10-46 to 7-38 was an adjustment, but after a few minutes playing, it was all good. The feel is great, and I am enjoying playing my Tele which always felt a little stiff, and the Strat is like a new guitar! And the cool thing is, I didn't even have to adjust my truss rods or alter my setup other than an intonation adjustment. The tone these strings produce is great, and after having these on my guitars for over a month now on a hanger, they are remarkably still in tune with only the most minuscule tweaks on the tuners on a string or two put them in perfect pitch. As an older player with arthritis and joint related problems, these are a godsend and I commend Dunlop for bringing these out. I suffer a great deal from joint pain, and with these strings, I play more comfortably and fluidly than I have in a while. For those who say "Big string give big tone", I challenge you to try a set and see how they work for you. You may be pleasantly surprised. I think they sound fantastic, and I'm switching all my guitars to these.Great job, Dunlop and Billy Gibbons!5In the end I'd say these are just too light to be useful. These are ultralight strings that are sturdy enough to last a few weeks. And the .08's are useful if the player has a style of bending notes. Trouble is they are so light they can bend all the notes pretty much all the time so chords start sounding odd unless the amp is set to distort the sound too much for most playing styles. Some people like them and find them entirely suitable for their playing style. Fine. Some people like beets and beets have a good reputation as a very healthy food. I just don't care for beets very much.I suppose their best use for the average new guitarist would be when they are first starting out, are looking more for playability to help them along learning barre chords and want steel strings that don't make their fingers to hurt so much while the calluses are forming. But they should keep in mind that when they replace the .09's or higher that came with their guitar with these .08's they may well need to adjust the neck, since the lighter strings don't have enough tension to sit as high on the middle frets.3Amazing Strings All Around!Earlier this year I started using B.B. King guitar strings, Love them. But just like anything I like Gibson has discontinued them. So I had to find a new set of strings, that's when I found these bad boys.Rev. Willy's Mexican Lottery Brand StringsThese have been designed with the help of Billy Gibbons "of ZZ Top".This is how their site describes them."Soulful, rich, articulate and smooth, Billy Gibbons' big fat Texas tone has been described as hot, blue, and righteous . Dunlop has developed Reverend Willy s Strings in collaboration with Billy himself aiming to make strings that offer a real punch and still stay articulate and clear when performing his legendary leads and pinch harmonics."I have to say this is spot on, I absolutely love these strings from the deep bluesy sound, to the feel and the flexibility of them. With the price coming in around $4.50 a set, These are my New go-to Strings!5
