These have been my favorite acoustic strings for a couple of years nowThese have been my favorite acoustic strings for a couple of years now. My old guitar is one of those that only sounds good with 80/20 bronze alloy strings, and those used to go dull and dead within a month of casual playing. But these keep that newly-broken-in chime for a year or more. Definitely worth the money. As for the coating, it's so subtle you won't even notice it. The only thing you'll notice is that you haven't felt the need to change strings in a long time.Plus, they're Ernie Ball, so you know they'll feel and sound great. The dynamic range and natural harmonics on these things is excellent. They help make my cheap old guitar sound downright beautiful.5Try the aluminum bronze 12's!!Thought I'd try these since I liked the aluminum bronze so much. I'll stick with the ab's. These are just okay.3Everlast lasted a dayThe whole point of coated is for guys like me that burn through regular strings. I was excited to hear the tone of these - superb PB. The feel is quite nice, not John Pearse nice but more flexible and snappy than say Martins. None of that matters in the end for me cause it blackened and died in a day (with careful washing of hands and wiping down).I f***ing hate paying the premium but Elixirs I'm coming back.. Try these if your hands arent corrosive though, the tone is incredible.3Best coated string I have ever playedWasn't sure how extra light strings would sound on my Alvarez Jumbo Acoustic, But wow, they are amazing. The volume that came out of these strings was unbelievable. I had used Elixir in the past, but for coated strings these things are the bomb. I'm just curious how long they will last for the money. If they hold up, I will be buying more for my other acoustics.5Good StringI am trying these out on my Gibson SJ- they seem stable ,tuning wise and have a nice " conventional " tone esp. on the bass side. Not slippery like Elixirs.I only use coated strings due to durability - some players say it negatively affects tone , but I have not experienced that with these.4Versitile, Affordable, Long-Lasting Strings.I never used to use Ernie Balls much because early on, for some reason, I got the impression they were mostly an electric guitar string company. Don't know whether that's true or not, but the idea's been sitting around in my head long as I can remember.Well, I'm an acoustic guy--my main axes are a rosewood Martin dread and a Gibson SJ made of mahogany--and I was getting really sick of my strings dying every couple weeks, so I thought I'd give these a try. Loved them! Good boom and thump out of the Martin strung with mediums, warm punchy growl from medium-lights on the mahogany. Nice projection on both. I like Elixr Nanowebs equally as much (if not a hair better), but both brands really seem to get out of the way and let the guitar do the talking; you don't hear the color of the string so much as the wood itself. I like that.I'll take Balls over Elixrs for the lower price, but I'll take either of 'em over D'Addario EXP"s. I find when those D'Addarios go, they don't just fade away, they seem to drop dead all at once. A note of caution: Ball's "Medium Lights" are equal to other brands' "Lights" (12-54), and their Mediums are just like regular old Mediums (13-56). Can be confusing at first. They work for me. Try them out!5Super warm and smooth toneAfter experimenting with 2 other brands in a week, these were the strings I was looking for. Super smooth and warm sounding, even right after being strung.I was trying to match the tone I had on my Breedlove which I bought used. The guitar still sounded awesome, but the old strings looked old and dirty and clearly needed to be replaced. The guys at Guitar Center recommended D'Addario Phosphor Bronze which I did not like at all. Way too bright. I swapped out with Martin SP Phosphor Bronze, which I liked more... but still not the same. They were less bright than the D'Addarios, but still louder and brighter than the sound I had before swapping out the original strings.Matching the color / style of the ball ends on the strings I narrowed down to either Elixir, or Ernie ball. (All gold-colored ends, coated. D'Addario strings have multi-colored ball ends.)These Ernie Balls came in yesterday and literally from the first chord I played, I knew the experimenting was over. The tone is AWESOME. If you prefer a warmer Martin-ish sound over a brighter Taylor-ish sound, these strings are HIGHLY recommended. They are also much easier to play than both of the sets I replaced... even though they were 11s and these are 12s.5I Like Coated Strings. Not much to say about these apart from the fact that they sound great (if you like 80/20, which is what I prefer) & that they last a really long time. ... D'addario doesn't make this set which is what I use for my 000. Ernie ball doesn't make the exact set that I use for my dreadnaught so I use D'addario EXPs. they are virtually identical in quality, longevity & tone.5Overall, a nice choice, especially for fingerstyle guitar. These are an interesting alternative to Elixir and D'Addario EXPs. They sound wonderful when playing fingerstyle guitar. I notice some scratchiness, however, when playing Dunlop Tortex picks with these strings. More so than with the other two strings brands I mentioned. If you like a brighter sound, these might be your preference over the other two brands. I'll continue updating as I play them for the next month or so to see how they hold up with some wear on them.4Beautiful clarityBeautiful sound! Very impressed. I put these on my old guitar after getting back into it (i hadnt changed the strings in 8 years). The difference was night and day. This will be my strings that i go to from now on5
