I am returning this and getting the pocket sized one as the verse reference is listed in that option and not the whole verse printed out like it is in this full size bookThis book uses kjv as well as other versions. I am returning this and getting the pocket sized one as the verse reference is listed in that option and not the whole verse printed out like it is in this full size book. I use kjv only so I prefer to look the verse up myself. Other than that I love this book and I look forward to using it.4This book is full of mysticism. This book is full of mysticism. This is not for Christians to read. I caution all Christians to beware. Research and you will see or you will be lead astray into the devils grasp.1Absurd !I used this every morning for some time but it irritated me being written as the voice of God , when she started calling me foolish with a degrading attitude I stopped reading it , if you want something close to truth , this IS NOT it !1One StarNew Age garbage1The Word of Jesus for daily admonition, teaching and encouragement. When a friend told me about this book and that it was such an inspiration to her, I had my doubts. How could any author know what Jesus had to say to us? Well, I gave it a try. With the accompanying scripture, Sarah was surely led by the Holy Spirit when writing this book. I feel that God has given me great growth through the words He gave her that were just for me. I could write a book telling how God has gone before me with the subtitle I have given this book. My life was saved from a death by hypothermia because the words from Jesus that morning told me that He is my strength. I am 73 years old and have mobility issues.. One of our horses got out of the pasture and I thought I could get her back to the barn. We had 12 inches of snow during the night, but she was just outside the door, so I slipped my bare feet into a pair of shoes, grabbed a lightweight jacket, a lead rope, two canes and a carrot. She munched on the carrot as I attempted to get the rope on her. Well, she figured out what I was doing, grabbed the carrrot and ran for the corn field and I was sure I could catch up with her and coax her back to the barn. I stumbled and fell. My canes just slipped on the snow and I couldn't get up. I started crawling and as I tired, belly crawling to a house that was closer than mine. I was getting so tired, I just wanted to lay my head down and rest for a bit. As I layed my head down, I heard a voice telling me not to lay my head down, not to close my eyes, just look for the next spot you're going to. You have the strength. Every time I wanted to lay my head down, I heard the same voice and felt revived enough to go on. I made it to the other house; my neighbor called 911 and medical help arrived. Even though I was in shock and my temperature was just below 95 degrees, I was totally lucid. I give thanks to God for urging me on. At my age,He must still have things for me to do in His service. My only injury was slightly bruised kidneys from the fall that healed quickly without any complications. My husband came to emergency and was able to take me home. Before we left for the hospital, the horse came to the ambulance and bumped her head on it until the sheriffs tried to catch her. She ran to the barn door and waited for them to open the door and let her into her stall. I had traveled between 1/4 and 1/2 a mile. This is just one example of how knowing that Jesus is calling and always with us, leading us into His will and keeping us safe, holding me with His right hand and keeping me in His everlasting arms.5Jesus is calling, but not through this bookJesus Calling continues to be popular as people search for peace in this broken world. But I am dumbfounded that many Christians are relying on this devotional given the contents of Sarah Young's writings. Young writes as if she is Jesus, which is a glaring problem with this book. If she had simply used "I" instead of "He" to make clear these words are hers and not those of Jesus, then the devotional and her thoughts might be seen as a comfort to readers. Even so, I would like to have seen all versions of Jesus Calling include full scripture verses rather than just the references. Those two things could have combined to make this an effective devotional rather than the bizarre read that it is. As I seek a deeper presence of God in my life, I will rely on His true word in the Bible and not an author who presumes to speak for Jesus.1Very Unsettling ApproachI purchased this book as my morning devotional for 2019 after hearing so many great things about it. Immediately I found it disturbing that the book is written in the first person, as if God was speaking. I told myself it was just different than other devotional books I d used and I would get used to it. But I have not become accustomed to the format, rather the more I read, the more unsettling it is. It feels as if the author is putting words into God s mouth, which in my opinion, should not be done as the Bible is truly the only words of God. Furthermore, the Bible references given with each entry are often just a single verse taken out of context to support what is written. Definitely not my style and not inspirational for me. I do not understand all of the accolades this book and its companion, Jesus Always, have received.1My all-time favorite daily devotionalMy all-time favorite daily devotional. I have told LOADS of people about this book and have given this book to a few of them. This year is my third year of reading it. I'm not new to deepening my spirituality; but this book certainly was a surprise in that area. It has profoundly affected me, enlarging my faith!5Book needs a banner disclaimer: NOT THE WORDS OF JESUSA woman I know, of great spiritual worth and devotion to the path of Christ Jesus, recommended this book to me. I bought it. It feels wrong to me. 100% wrong. The thing we must realize, is that by purporting to speak in Christ's name, putting words in his mouth the author risks minimizing and even trivializing the uniqueness of Scripture. When I was a boy, I for more than a year was firmly convinced that there were actually 13 Commandments, because I saw it somewhere in a movie ad. Any impressionable boy or girl, gifted with this sincere book, will certainly believe she or he is reading the words of the Son of God. They will go around telling people "Jesus says ... " when he does nothing of the kind. I have never encountered a book like this. I would describe it as inspired, highly spiritual and a book that should be banned. Nobody puts words in the mouth of Jesus Christ. To do so is innately and inescapably a lie. The only remedy, and I do urge this upon the author in her future editions, is in fact a full disclaimer, on the cover: THIS IS A WORK OF FICTION. THESE TALKS ARE 100% IMAGINARY. THE AUTHENTIC JESUS IS ONLY TO BE FOUND IN SCRIPTURE. THESE ARE NOT THE WORDS OF JESUS CHRIST. I'm aware the author is not megalomaniac quite the reverse rather, fully spiritual and God-fearing. But this book is pure error, and ventures as close to blasphemy as anything so beautiful so spiritually lovely and spiritually useful could be. Seriously people, what if there were dozens of books like this? These pages inspire, yes but they sow confusion, because they are not the Revealed Word of God Almighty. Moreover, any young and impressionable person reading this book might well find that the Jesus she or he encounters, in what is popularly known as The Actual Bible just isn't that nice a guy. The actual Jesus comes proclaiming the Kingdom of his father to a lost world. He comes, knowing he will die a horrible, shameful, lonely death. He comes, more often angry than kind, often hectoring, demanding, despairing, openly accusatory, predicting faithlessness. He radiates challenge and ferocity more than calm and sweetness. He comes, warning of us what our tomorrow, and our eternity, will be like if we remain as we are. What he dares us to do, borders on the impossible. "But Mommy, I like this Jesus better" is a pretty creepy thought. Where in these pages is the Christ of Matthew 10? If Jesus were in the room and he is how happy would he be with this dewy representation of himself? I'm feeling here a "blond and blue-eyed" Jesus (you remember him) not our Man of Constant Sorrows, proclaiming a salvational path through perpetual combat against our shortcomings knowing that his own winding road leads to Calvary. The task ahead of us: Stand before the throne of God justified. I submit to you that peace and quiet ... might not get that done. I invite comment, and will gladly amend this review. By contrast I commend to your attention My Utmost for His Highest by Oswald Chambers. Above all, remember The Good Thief. He, and only he among all of humanity, has the full, personal invitation of Christ Jesus into Paradise. There, nailed to his own cross, against the darkening sky, he becomes the firstborn into light. Look, the disciples have scattered except Mary, the first disciple, at the foot of the cross, shattered. The practical thief states the obvious: If you re the Messiah, then get us down from here. Very sensible. But The Good Thief believes and the Gate of Heaven opens.1Danger, Danger-UnbiblicalThis author writes as if God or Jesus is speaking in first person. The only book that you can trust that God or Jesus is speaking is the Bible. No other book can claim that authority. Please do your research, by getting biblical reviews from sites you trust as biblical. One might be gotquestions.org but do your own research. The publisher has since edited out what was in her first editions about how she started this. It was an occult practice.1
