Good but compared to a Boss Sd1......Ok just got this Joyo vintage overdrive and A-B'd it to a Boss SD-1 that I just got this week too. I was trying to see if I liked the sound of a tube screamer clone without having to dish out twice as much as the Boss SD-1.I'm strictly using this for bedroom volume through a Bugera 5w tube amp. (which is sweet by the way). And Telecasters.Right away I noticed a difference in tone. Same settings, the Joyo was more muffled sounding, not as much presence.I had to crank the tone knob to full on the Joyo to get it to match just over half on the Boss. The Joyo is quiet, the Boss a little more hiss but that's because its just more "alive".The Joyo is built good. Good for the money. But for $15 more the tone of the Boss is noticeably better. More presence in tone and more sweep in the use of the knobs.Just my opinion.4Versatile overdrive pedalThis is really good sounding overdrive pedal, it does what I m requesting it to do. No, it s not a Ibanez TS pedal but if you wanted to replace a real TS pedal with this Joyo Vintage overdrive, you would be smiling after plugging in to it. I m a long time guitar player (turned 50 today) I play and love plenty of different styles of music, but mainly I m a metal guitar player ( Tool, Machine Head, Deftones, Death Angel ) those are my main influences in my over all approach to my playing and this pedal helps me get some killer tones. If you re thinking about buying this pedal, I would say just get it, you ll like it and for the money you can t go wrong at all.5Buy this if you need a classic OD pedalI've owned Tube Screamers, owned and built, clones of them, true bypass versions, buffered versions, etc. Everyone knows what these old OD pedals should do, and this one does it as well as most. No reason to break the bank for an OD. The drive comes in early, so if you are using this more as a boost (what I use it for) easy on that drive knob, but it also sweeps up to adding a good bit of dirt without the need to drastic level adjustments. In that way, it's more functional than many OD pedals. If I was to change anything at all, I'd change the LED to green (and of course swap the biasing resistor accordingly.) I doubt I'll bother. For this price, you can't go wrong. For that matter you could buy two, one for a boost and the other for pure dirt, and still come out with more money in your pocket than buying one of most name brand ODs.5Worth while tubescreamer alternative/boostGreat budget tubescreamer copy. I set the gain to zero, and use it as a boost. It does an excellent job. Works as well as any tubescreamer. I got it to replace my Behringer overdrive. The housing on this is all metal which is a big step up from the plastic housing on the Behringer. Sounds alot better too. It pushes my Wampler Dracarys great, as well as my Xotic SL Drive. My only gripe is the hideous yellow knobs, that look trashy on my board, but I didnt buy it to be a pretty pedal, I bought it to be a workhorse and it really is!If it ever breaks I will just buy another.5TS808 Tone at a reasonable priceI waited a few months before rating this pedal. I finally feel comfortable enough to say that it is an excellent overdrive pedal. It gets rave reviews because it sounds good. It claims to be a clone of an Ibanez TS808 and to sound like it. I must agree that it sounds good and sound wise approximates the legendary TS808. It is well made and seems sturdy. The only weakness that I can see with a pedal like this is the low quality ribbon cable that connects the switch PCB to the main PCB. The low quality ribbon cable is lightly soldered and can easily break. It is held in place with some type of silicon or epoxy. But overall the parts it is made from are of good quality and the construction method is solid. The casing is metal and seems strong enough. The main thing is the sound and it sounds like pedals that are six times more expensive. This is where it shines, in the sound and price. This pedal will stay on my pedalboard and I do not see any reason why to buy a more expensive overdrive, when this pedal sounds so good. Get it, but make sure that you get it from a vendor that backs up their products. Many Chinese pedals tend to suffer from quality consistency and while many great pedals get through, some bad ones also get through. I am speaking from experience since I have purchased Joyo pedals that were faulty from new and had to return them, but this is not always the case and when you get a good one it is a keeper. If the Chinese pedal companies improve their quality consistency they will be extremely successful with their clones. I recommend this pedal.5Great sound for the priceJoyo has become a sort of Great Value-esque brand with its cheaper pricing and almost identical function to more expensive guitar pedals. However, the only thing that keeps this from being a 5-star rating is that the JF-01 suffers from an extremely problematic design flaw, which is the fact that the wires inside the unit that connect to the battery can get lodged into the 'tube' that the cables go through to connect the guitar. This caused one of the wires to get chewed through completely when I tried to plug it in one day. I had to solder it, but go it working again and fixed it to the unit with some electrical tape. So, if you buy this product, make sure that the wires that connect to the battery are placed as close as you can get them to the middle of the pedal.4Nice mid boost for lead or rhythm w/o breaking the bankThis pedal is supposedly a Tube Screamer (TS9? 808?) clone based on all I've read about it. I've never owned a tube screamer so I can't say how close it is to the real thing. I can say that if the real deal is supposed to give a mid boost and more gain that isn't muddy sounding then this pedal does that. I've been using it in front of a "Plexi" model that is set slightly to moderately dirty and I'm liking what I can get. Normally I'll set the Level @ 10, Gain @ 0 and Tone to taste and it performs well giving me a touch of added gain w/o adding too much noise. Sometimes I'll turn the Level down and Gain up and that seems to work w/o too much added hiss as well. If your looking for a nice lead boost or to color your rhythm tone a bit in front of a slightly overdriven amp then I would say at the price this thing goes for it is definately worth it. Haven't set it up in front of a clean amp yet. As far as the casing goes it seems as solid as most pedals tho the footswitch is a bit stiff. Can't speak to the quality of the inside build as I've only had it about a month so only time will tell. Overall I would recommend this pedal for anyone looking for the same stuff I use it for because for the price you aren't risking much and if you're an Amazon Prime member and buy from the right seller you have 30 days to decide if it's right for your needs and if not it doesn't cost you anything out of pocket. I use Reverb.com as well and can't get that deal on there. Gotta love Prime! Happy playing!4I really love this ts cloneI really love this ts clone. They sound fantastic. This is my second one because I messed the first one up trying to swap the diodes out for germanium. The board is very fragile, I read a forum about it and didn't pay attention, which is on me for not being more careful. I am leaving this one alone because I love the sound of it. Great pedal. Would definitely recommend and purchase again if I need another one.5not enough range...seems stuck on one soundI wanted to really like this petal dont get me wrong. It works and sounds good. The on button is certainly stiff and that produces a very loud click but it doesn't go over the speakers. The main negative I would say is that moving the knobs around doesn't seems to produce any dramatic differences and it certainly isn't sensitive to minor changes in knob positions. If you move the knobs all the way to one side or the other you can hear a minor change but there is no real tweaking of the knobs. Not sure why this is. This is a big negative to me but if you like the sound it makes and dont really care about not being able to really hear a differences in moving the knobs around its a nice solid petal.I do wish it would have more range though.3Amazing value. Money well spent.I've been playing guitar as a hobbyist and semi-professionally for 44 years. I've had just about every type of guitar and a variety of pedals. The Joyo JF-1 is the closest copy of the highly sought-after Tube Screamer tone I've encountered. Without paying Ibanez and boutique prices. I have a really good ear and, although I can hear the difference between this and a real 808 (my friend's vintage unit), the difference is so subtle as to be negligeable. Great for light breakup up to full-on tube saturation. Works good for single coils and hummers, although with hummers, it's really smooth. At this price point which is 1/10th of a real tube screamer or a boutique clone, there's no reason not to buy this. Built like a tank and has the sound of every great rock guitarist you've ever heard.5
