Description

  • Hihats are the most important cymbals on a drum set - The HCS 14" hihats are comprised of two cymbals that players mount on a pedal activated stand so that they may be played closed together, opened and apart, or with your foot (stand not included)
  • Designed for beginners and students, Made in Germany - these hihats are designed for beginner and student musicians, using a durable brass alloy that maintains its tone while holding up to the brunt of drum sticks - Made in Germany
  • Multiple sounds - create the sought after "chick" sound when played closed together or by opening and closing the cymbals with your foot pedal - these hihats also deliver a sizzling wash when the cymbals are played while opened up
  • For any style - these 14" diameter hihats are a perfect fit for any style from jazz to rock and funk to punk - their durable brass alloy is designed to create a great sound and feel at any volume level or intensity
  • Specially weighted cymbals - the top cymbal is lighter than the bottom cymbal to allow for full sound development and a better overall feel - this is a design element that gives these cymbals the classic hihat "chick" sound

Customer Reviews

Good quality for beginner cymbalsGood quality for beginner cymbals. Short clean sound when closed, sound doesn't linger when open. Relatively high-pitched while closed; low-pitched while open.4A product that feels built to lastHere is a link to a video I created for these Hi Hat Cymbals:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kn8GLJ6PGG8&feature=youtu.beI'm no expert, but these seem like very well constructed cymbals; I've banged on them quite a bit (although not as hard as some drummers would, I suppose) since receiving them, and I have yet to see any wear or tear I don't have anything at my disposal to test them against, but I have heard bad sounding hi-hat cymbals in the past; the resonance these produce is pleasurable to my ear. **Star Rating (according to Amazon)*****1(I hate It) 2(I don't like it) 3(It's okay) 4(I like it) 5(I love it)***I'll have to go with a 4 stars. There is nothing wrong with the cymbals at all, as far as I can tell; however, I can't say that I love it. I like it.4AMAZING SOUNDRun, don't walk to buy these cymbals! I replaced a budget set of Sabian B8's with these based on reviews I saw on other retailer's sites. I'm so glad I did. These hats give me that crisp open hi hat sound that I wanted & a dynamic closed hat sound. I play soul, r&b, fusion, gospel & pop and these hi hats give me exactly what I need for those styles. They're hefty (in weight) without being clodding & dull and they just sing! They make me want to play my drums all the time. I don't know how Meinl sells these so cheaply. In terms of quality, they rival Zildjian and Sabian intermediate to entry level-pro cymbals, but at an extreme budget/beginner's price. I can't get over it! Buy these!5should i trust the cheap hats?okay well, these hats are cheap compared to what you normally see, for the "best" hats you could be looking at over $200, now dont get me wrong, although some expensive hats may be a rip off, a pair of $200 hats can sound beautiful, if thats what your looking for you may be dissapointed with these hats. but again, dont get me wrong, these hats have excellent quality for the price. they have a nice "chick" with a good sound when opened. the closed hat sound is nice and distinguished, but personally has a bit of a dull sound. the colour and finish of the product is a nice gold and looks nice on the set. as for ratings:sound: 7/10 (considering it could be compared to the best)durability 9/10 (should be fine if you dont throw a brick at it)price 9/10 (if you paid -$90)conclusion: if your on a budget but still want decent sounding and reliable hats mienl HCS 14 inch hi-hats may be what your looking for.5Great Value For PriceLet's face it. Drumming is an expensive hobby. Even if you get a basic 3 piece drum kit, it is costly as everything starts adding up.I recently got a new drum set after 30 years without one. I am not a serious drummer. I just drum for fun. the only thing my kit did not have was cymbals, including hi-hats. I was able to get a used crash and ride cymbal from a friend, so all I needed was hi-hats.After much research, and the fact my wife would not be happy if I spent a lot of money on a hobby, I decided to take a chance on these hi-hats.I am beyond happy that I did. I am no drummer as I said, but I have been around drummers since I am about 13 years, being on and off in various bands until my early 30's.These hi hats sound great to me. Sure, you can go out and spend $400 or more on hi-hats, but chances are if you are spending that type of money on hi-hats, these cymbals were not made for you to begin with. For everyone else, who may just play drums as a hobby, or who may just be getting into drums and does not have a huge budget, these are the hi hats to get. I will update this review if they crack before the 2 year warranty has expired, but I have put them through the ringer so far and they sound great, seem plenty sturdy, and are absolutely worth the price and then some.Thank you to Meinl for providing an option for people that is well made and worth the price.5FIRST CLASS PRODUCTS AT A REASONABLE PRICE!I bought this (Hi Hat) Cymbal Pair at the direction of my husband, Bob Reibel, who saw them and asked me to get them for him for his birthday, so I did. He is very pleased with their sound! Bob told me that right after he came back from serving in WW II, he was fortunate enough to be asked to sit in and play the drums for a wonderful for him period of time with the Famous Guitar Blues Legend and Singer, Big Bill Broonsey, and his group in Chicago!!! He said, " the audience paid them in tips and the house in gin." It's one of my husband's most cherished memories! He even has a wonderfully clear black and white picture of himself sitting at a table with Big Bill and his wife, Rose, and other band members all chatting together and having a fun time! Must have been in the early '40's before I was born. Oh well, my husband says I'm his 'spring chicken,' even though I'm getting older myself now with arthritis in my hands when it's cold outside and some grey hair. It's all relative. As long as I can think straight I'm blessed. Ann Reibel5Wow amazing sound for the price!I agree with most of the reviews. I had my Zildjian's Zbt's 14" hi hats on my Ludwig drum set for jazz playing, then my Sabian's 14" hi hats on my Pearl drum set for heavy rockin, but just not crisp enough. But I read up on these HCS hi hats and was skeptical still? But purchased them anyways. For the price I could not believe the sound these cymbals were producing! Amazed and now a believer! That the higher price isn't always going to be better! These things are so awesome! I'm buying another set with the crash and ride to compare with my other cymbles I have. I've played off and on in bands, drummer first guitar second. But now I'm back on drums and starting to record my own sound! And I've played for about 35 years and I'll say these cymbals rock! Get some well worth the price!5Had them over a year and still love themThese will blow away any type of stock hats. If you bought a cheap kit like I did that came with some cymbals then these will make a world of difference. Will they stack up against high end hats ??? I dunno but I like them. Ive had them for over a year they are very durable The bell on these sound great. I dont think these hats should be overlooked!5Much better than I thought it would beI've been a professional drummer for 20 years. I've played for 32 years. This is a great student hi hat. It's also really good if you're on a tight budget and you're playing rock, hard rock, punk, heavy metal, or anything that doesn't need serious dynamics. expect a thick sound. The sound quality is better than I expected, and only sounds bad if you're playing the hi hat VERY open. It has great stick response, a good "chick" sound, good (but heavy) sound when played with foot, and a pretty decent, "slight open sizzle" for the music styles I was talking about. It's also a smart budget choice if you want a second closed hi hat for your kit while doing double bass. I helped a student pick these out, and both of us were pleased with the outcome. Please do not buy the HCS ride or crash cymbal based on my hi hat review. Do your own research there as I didn't find them pleasing as some other ride/crash cymbals in similar price ranges.4Solid soundThese sound great and I love playing them. The tone is rich and they feel solid enough to take a beating from relentless accents with the stick shoulder. The shiny brass looks good.Update 2018/03/08: I eventually got tired of the brassy sound. I came into a pair of Meinl MCS (B8 bronze) hats, and while they sound slightly better, I'm still looking to replace them with some B20 bronze hi-hats now. I still think the HCSs are a good value, but I personally won't add any more brass cymbals to my collection in the future.5
