Excellent delay pedalI like this pedal a lot. I have used Boss pedals a lot but I noticed a tiny bit of distortion in my tone as I like to play clean. No such problem with the Carbon Copy. I did find the documentation to be a bit off in setting the slap back echo. After some experimentation I set the two bottom knobs to around 10 o'clock. The Mix knob I set to 2 or 3 o'clock. Your experience may vary but it is just the right amount of slap back for my playing. Ruggedly built with simple controls. Highly recommended.5Sounds awesome.I cannot say anything negative about this pedal. It sounds absolutely fantastic. It of course lacks some of the high end features found on the deluxe model, but at the price and size. I can live without them.5Best Delay I've Ever Heard, Questionable Modulation FunctionThis really is a fantastic delay, I played in guitar center and listened to it on youtube and it seemed very "ambient" and pleasing, and in person it about fits the same bill. The texture is very organic to my ears, and fills space without clogging up the guitar's signal. My grippe, and after reading other comments it may be what the pedal is designed for, but to me the "mod" button seems almost useless, I find that it boosts the top end frequencies, but at the same time it thins out the bottom end frequencies so it just sounds less full. I've used other delay pedals with "mod", and this one is still better than most, but it stumps me why even have it when it's effect minimal, and what I found was it's VERY difficult to use without getting the "seasick" tone.Overall though, even with the modulation being questionable, this pedal I believe if isn't true bypasss, it fools me, I tested with and without being plugged in to the pedal and straight to my amp, and I never heard any differences in my original signal with the pedal off. Also, if you dial back the "mix" to about 9'oclock, you can use it in front of an amp with high gain and it acts like a "tape echo", it's pretty cool that it is pliable to your guitars gain, and still sounds good. That said I think after 9 o'clock, the pedal may start to filter in gain that increases the pedals signal, and if your playing straight into an amp this will "fight" your preamps gain, so if you have that issue you can just turn down the mix knob and it will sit very well in the mix.4Way more than just delayYes, this is a good analog delay, but it's much more than that. The two things I like most are the "air/space" that it adds to my sound and the sustain. The sustain in particular is outstanding. Even without a lot of delay or repeats (which I rarely use) you can get about as much sustain as you will probably ever want. I currently own 4 delay pedals. I swap them out as needed. I have 2 boards (small & large). This pedal stays with me now. If you don't have a good reverb pedal on your board (I use the Hall of Fame which is excellent) and you are on a budget, buy this first. You will get reverb and delay. The only "negative" thing I can say about the pedal is that I don't understand (or care for) the power input being on the right side of the pedal very close to the input jack. I find that a bit annoying but certainly not a deal breaker.Great pedal!5Halfway decent delay pedalThe echo/delay effects are of middling quality, and it was somehow causing a lot of feedback in my pedal chain. Have to use a noise gate just for this pedal, even playing on clean channel, which is unreasonable. It seemed like a good deal for the relatively low price, but honestly it would have been smarter to just pay the extra $40 and gotten a higher quality delay pedal. I Recommend NOT going by reputation/reviews and actually playing on one at a music store before you buy it.3The industry standard reference for analog delayThere may be nicer tape-delay type units on the market, but for the money you'd have a hard time beating the MXR as a baseline, industry-standard reference for analog delay. I consider this pedal to be a must-have now; it's on about 40 - 50% of the time. You can go full Pink Floyd space cadet with this, especially with the "mod" switch that creates weird pipe organ warbles. However, I usually turn it way down and blend in the wet/dry signals (nice feature!) for a subtle texturing effect for both electric and acoustic. It adds depth. It sits somewhere between a reverb and tremolo, but has a nice character all of its own that is neither of the above. The "feel" of this pedal is also really hard to describe, but nice. The analog guts really shine through. I would describe it as "natural" and "analog" in feeling, rather than "harsh" and "digital".Build quality appears to be excellent, better than some other MXR pedals I've owned (e.g. the 10-band E.Q.).The price, at $150, is about right. If you can pick one up used for $100 that's a strong "buy".5A good, practical, analog delayI bought this pedal to add a little delay and colour while retaining sound quality and tone from my guitar to my non-MV tube amp. I don't require a lot of delay, or use it for an U2 style trickery...just wanted to add extra 'space' for leads and cleans at 'barely on' settings with low regeneration. In that department, this pedal delivers perfectly. One could easily ditch the reverb and just use this. The modulation button does impart a bit of 'tape' style echo. I matched this up with a friends' Fulltone tape echo, and was able to get a reasonable fascimile. At about $120, that makes the carbon copy a much better candidate for gigging than a real tape echo with moving parts. This pedals also plays well with other pedals (aka phase 90), although it can be a bit finicky about where to go in the chain. Also, it chewed up the 9v fast...maybe one too many lights (the mod button, which I like, really doesn't need an extra led).5Excellent analog delay pedal at a great priceI'm far from a new guitarist, but have only begun adding guitar effects pedals to my lineup in the last year, largely due to the insistence of my bandmates. On my board constantly at the ready now is this jewel. For reference, I don't play through some major head and big ole honkin' half stack. I play through simple classics - a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe or Marshall AVT50 (both modestly priced, great amps for different reasons, but IMHO, pretty hard to beat the Fender...). The Carbon Copy pedal to me sounds terrific in slapback setting (being sure amp is pegged at 0 reverb). The guys were right. Certain pedals are a must for quality of tone and style in performance. The quality of my amps was plenty for me, but I was missing out. For the right songs and compositions, this pedal makes it darned hard to put my guitar down. I'm still more of a purist, setting the amp to modest presence and reverb, but seriously, the Carbon Copy is that nice. Anybody who tries it is hooked in a few measures. A few simple licks turns into a few songs, and pretty soon you wonder how you got by without that sound.Simple, clean, warm, no hiss, no buzz. Other pedals worthy and affordable - EH Little Big Muff, Boss Super Chorus, Korg tuner, and your choice for a preamp booster for solos (my vote - blow off the snobs and get an affordable Behringer preamp booster pedal) and a compressor pedal to keep it all even. That's plenty for virtually any gig.The price through Amazon was better than anything I could buy locally.5Very dark repeatsI bought this pedal and wasn't thrilled with two things:1. Very dark repeats2. No tap tempo or subdivisions control (I knew this going in but really missed it)If you really want this pedal, the CC Deluxe is coming out in Oct 2017and consider that one. It has it all for a bit more.3Best delay pedal I've used.I've gigged with digital delay for the last 10 years, I wish I hadn't. This analog delay sounds so much more natural and has a nice warm decay letting you have that richness along with sounding articulate. And the modulation button gives you the option to have a chorus type effect once the delay starts to repeat. It all just sounds so amazing. Also, the LED is bright AF and I'll have no problem seeing it during daytime outdoor gigs.I would give this six stars If the AC outlet was on the top instead of the side.5
