Good graphics, but poor game play.Started on the easy levels. Made it through most everything but it brakes for you. When I tried the more difficult levels, you get rag-dolled by the more aggressive drivers. When you get rag-dolled they continue on as if nothing happened and if you try to muscle them it invariably back fires leaving you in the quick-sand like shoulder facing magnetic north (the opposite direction) 99% of the time. It doesn't take much of this to lose the enjoyment of playing and you soon find yourself simply wasting time (which you are anyway) with frustration instead of enjoyment. While visually stunning, I find the unrealistic advantage for the house cars too frustrating to play.2Worth Your MoneyThe download is very fast and hassle free ( 50mbps broadband and took me 30 mins). The game works well and fine, graphics are awesome. ( I am using NVIDIA Cuda GT545)About the game: There is a reasonable amount of tracks and cars( This game came out in 2009, not many cars then), tough I wish there were a bit more. I recommend that you use a steering wheel and pedals. When you use a keyboard and mouse, al inputs are the max, which means when you press the left arrow key, it means you turn the steering wheel to the left all the way, tough the time to turn it to the extreme doesn't happen very quickly. ( so it doesn't affect me much, although sometimes its quite frustrating) you can change the settings like the sensitivity and the way the car responds to your input. You can race with people from around the world with the ONLINE option, however, no one actually plays that right now. What i really enjoy about this game is the racing experience itself, not so much about customising your car or advancing through levels. (you have to reach tier 4 to unlock all cars) You can search for gameplay footage on youtube or ask me questions. THANKS:D4It's not iRacing but...I didn't buy this game thinking I was going to get an iRacing.com experience. I understand that if you want real world racing and a simulator, it'll cost you more than this game by far. I was surprised by the graphics and detailed experience starting you out with a few short races before the competition really heats up. I had no problem getting stars and winning races but the head to head was easy to beat if you know how and hard if you don't. I am not a fan of smashing into people while racing. If you've ever been on iRacing.com, you'll understand why this is a big change of pace. There, you get punished. On this, you get rewarded. It's an even funner game if you have a good steering wheel like the G27 by Logitech. Configure your controls before you get too far into this game and search online for the fix to a problem NFS: Shift has with Windows 7. You have to delete the config folder and it's easy to find once you know where it is. I am not certain but I think it's a graphics config folder that will shut your game down every time unless you delete it. Like I said, research it online and find the exact location and you'll be good to go. I gave this 4 stars because I knew what I was getting but it's still no iRacing.com. Good luck and I hope I helped you.4Great Game, some minor bugsNeed for Speed - Shift is a great racing game. My family had tremendous fun playing it. A steering wheel is probably essential to really enjoying the game. We use a Logitech g-25 and a Thrustmaster shifter. The line-up up of cars is excellent, as are the graphics. The simulated difference in the cars is well done. The Bugatti drives very differently than say the suped-up Corvette. There are some minor and sometimes annoying bugs, but they are tolerable given the overall fun of the game.I definitely recomend the game.4Manual Badly NeededThis is a fun to play racing simulation and if you use a wheel and pedals probably good for exercising hand/eye coordination. It is fairly realistic and one can fine tune the suspension and such to improve drive performance. The game is built around earning points and stars which enable you to upgrade or buy new cars. This is really for the birds and it does not work on the version I have. I have zillions of points but have not yet been able to get a really sophistcated racing machine like a Maserati or Porsche. Which brings me to my main gripe which is that EA support in this area is non-existent by way of manuals or their support center. EA were good in giving me a downloadable replacement to the DVD version I bought from Amazon which they said was "corrupted". But if you want any assistance in playing through the game (including the "rewards" maize) EA support will send you to the jungles of the forums. This is not support.I have looked at NFS Shift 2 and see that it is downloadable only which means no written documentation is available. This is an old and tiresome shortcoming with developers; they loathe documenting. If it is a financial issue, then at least a manual should be available for a price. My grandchildren just love to play this game so it is an inducement to get them to come visit Poppa. This makes up in part for the frustrating shortcomings notedabove. But you need to have a wheel, pedals and force feedback. In summary, much less arcade and more simulation and much more documentation.4NFS Shift still gets the heart pumping!I love driving games. I have been getting the NFS series games since Underground 1.When Grid came out, I thought that there could be no equal, but alas, here comes NFS Shift. What a great game! Graphics, sounds, music, tracks, details, etc, etc - if you like driving games with realistic simulation, this is for you!I ordered from Amazon and got the game quickly (did not pay extra for faster shipping) and it arrived sooner than I expected- which was sort of a bummer since my steering wheel and pedals were still in their box!Great purchase if you like racing games.5Fun game! Cheaper than anywhere else!I was introduced to this game via the Android version. I enjoyed on the mobile screen, so I decided to get for the PC as well. I looked at the main download services first (Steam, Impulse) and to my surprise the game was twice what it costs through Amazon. Needless to say, I purchased it here and installed it.The controls are awkward at first, but you get used to it.Overall this is a very fun racer, that is pretty straightforward. Having to sit through all of the cut-scenes on the first start was rather annoying, hence why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.4Great, if you have a Wheel & Pedals***EDIT*** I finally played it with my gamepad, totally frustrated all the way through..So I finally decided to try to finish NFS Shift....Well I must say the Graphics are really nice!!.It's NOT a SIM, not even close to a SIM!.It's an Arcade game, no doubt about that. Car crashes galore and you might as well get tough and learn to bump others off the track, because the AI cars will take you out! Try minding your own business and work around traffic, as in a real race and you will get creamed. Actually you are rewarded points and higher levels by dumping other cars off the road, so the game promotes a crash derby instead of clean racing. It gives you points when you race clean, but the AI cars still take you out, so there's no real reason to race cleanly since you get more points for taking other cars out. Because of only having a gamepad with digital controls (not analog), I ended up running with all the "assists" and it's the only way I could do it, due to lack of analog control. You need a steering Wheel and Pedals to do this game justice..Also it was really a short game overall. I found that getting to the goal of NFS World (level 5) was simple, since you don't have to win the majority of the races. I did all the races in level 1, most of them in level 2 and only part of them in level 3 and I was rewarded with the unlocks to levels 4 & 5. It ended up being a really short game overall..I also found that as the levels progressed, the AI cars got (as usual with EA) to the point where they were doing things that no real car could do. Taking corners faster than possible and accelerating beyond any race car could ever do. I ended up using the Corvette with "the works" and it is the fastest car I could find in the game. I walked away from everything, but it wasn't realistic and as I said, by the time you get to level 5, you just bull your way through the traffic, knocking them all off the track (they come right back don't worry) and then you just keep the lead till the race is done..The races are way too short. I found nothing over 5 laps and in the beginning only 2 laps. The races are so quick that you have no choice than to bull through the pack and get the lead right away, because the race is over in a flash. You can use "Quick Race" mode and increase the laps, but it's just not the same....The AI cars make lots of mistakes and bog down with crashes in every corner. They crash into each other and fly off the track. They come right back, so you never really loose them, but if you get in front there's no "rubber band" syndrome, so if you are the fastest, you will walk away from them. I have lapped many of them during a 5 lap race..All in all I liked it a lot for the graphics, the cars available (I use US mfg only and there's some great ones), the upgrades and the US and European tracks. I also liked that you don't have to do drift racing unless you want to, since you don't have to win every race, you can choose the style of racing you like..I didn't like the real short races and the overall shortness of the game, as well as the crash derby AI mentality, the old (NFS Pro Street) Japanese Tracks and the lack of control with a Gamepad. This game begs for a steering wheel and pedals. Way out of my price range. I guess I need to stick to the old titles like Underground 2, since it worked fine with a gamepad..Make sure you update with the newest patch before playing and there are some "trainers" out there if you get stuck. Use the "Tuning" section to individually tune your cars if you really want to play master mechanic, but it's not really necessary, stock settings win races.3Turned out to be a good babysitter between the time he finishes his homework and ...My 6 year old loves this game. But we have to keep the volume turned off because of the type of language that is used. This doesn't seem to bother him. He plays it for at lease 1 to 1-1/2 hours a day. Turned out to be a good babysitter between the time he finishes his homework and I have supper ready.4On the Way BackI wanted to like Need for Speed: Shift, I really did. As with other games I've recently purchased, my Thrustmaster Ferrari 5-in-1 was not recognized after the game was loaded on a Lenovo Pentium dual core computer with a 3.something processor. The test car that was going to measure my skills sat on the side of the track in the grass with a running motor. I then went back to the Main Menu options, chose edit for each control box, and steered the wheel, pressed the pedals, and pressed the buttons of the Thrustmaster to have the settings necessary to operate my wheel recognized. Returning to the race screen, I was now looking forward to the test lap. Well, the car was on the track, but it wouldn't stay there--unsafe at any speed! I then returned to the Main Menu and chose "adjust options." I saw that the steering sensitivity had been set to 25% and switched that to 100%. Returning to the game screen, I was now able to stay on the track at about five miles an hour on a zig-zag course. After again returning to adjust options and trying a couple more steering changes with no apparent result, I packed the Need for Speed: Shift, or an alternative title might be Need for Big Improvement in the Software: Hassle! back in the Amazon box. How do I know it was the software? Because, the wheel works great with the other game I bought called GTR Evolution. My suggestion would be for the Electronic Arts company to get together with the Simbin company. It gets on the nerves, after awhile, to listen to the extensive narrative regarding the approaching great opportunity. They even repeat the same exact verbage twice in case the buyer missed it the first time. And, you have to listen to it all each time a change is made in the options. In summary, not a lot of fun playing the game or standing in line at the Post Office to return it!1
