Classical/contemporary/rock and roll compositions for piano and cello. Popular with younger people. The Piano Guys is an American musical group consisting of a pianist, a cellist, a videographer, and a music producer who gained popularity through YouTube, where in 2010 they began posting piano and cello compositions combining classical, contemporary, and rock and roll music, accompanied by professional-quality videos. As of August 2018 the group had surpassed 1.6 billion views on their YouTube channel and had 6.2 million subscribers5Big FanI'm a big fan of the Piano Guys from their youtube channel ever since I first saw Cello Wars and started to listen to their other works. Now, I like a lot of different kinds of music and this cd features songs taken from many different genres. If you have more particular tastes in your music then you might want to look over the song list and listen to the Piano Guys version on youtube before you commit to buying a full album. For example, if you don't like classical instrumental music then you might want to think carefully before you lay down the money for this. If you are unfamiliar with the Piano Guys think of something in the same vein as the Trans-Siberian Orchestra or the Manheim Steamrollers all of which are adept at taken well-known songs and putting a new, unique, catchy, and modern spin on it to make it more appealing. Most of all, especially if you watch the youtube videos, you can tell they genuinely have fun as they play.5Inspiration for my child's cello practiceWhen my son started Suzuki cello this year in kindergarten, I decided to buy the deluxe edition instead of relying on YouTube videos. The CD/DVD combo is worth it! Not only do we enjoy The Piano Guys as a family, but also their performances provide a cool image of what professional musicians can do. After my son practices, we sometimes watch The Piano Guys for inspiration, looking at Nelson's posture, movement, and emotional engagement as he plays. While my son seems to enjoy traditional orchestra music, he definitely sees that playing a stringed instrument is not limited to one style. The Piano Guys creates innovative, beautiful, and exciting work, merging both audio and visual media.5So much more melodicThese guys are one-of-a-kind. I don't think there is anyone else out there mashing up classical pieces with teen pop favorites, and in such a beautiful, clever way. I think this music reaches all ages, from hip teens to even hipper 60 somethings. And the YouTube videos that go with this music are knockouts. The landscapes from the red rock of southern Utah for the African version of Paradise (Peponi) to the northern granite mountains covered with pine and aspen for the Hobbit mash up and other pieces - well they are stunning. I love the movie themes such as the Bourne identity intensity to the Wizard of Oz Somewhere Over the Rainbow mash up. And now, O Come Emmanuel filmed at Goshen, Utah on a mock- Jerusalem set built and used by the Mormon Church for their moving bible videos have mixed videos with Piano Guys rendition of this Christmas Gregorian Chant. Wow, it brings one to tears. Here's the link to see it. [...]These guys are really hot. This was money WELL spent!5AMAZING TalentIt wasn't enough to enjoy listening to the CDs, I had to watch the YouTube videos. I played many of these pieces growing up, but I never dreamed the classics could marry modern music and create a whole new genre! I don't listen to the radio any more. I'm constantly playing The Piano Guys on Amazon music and all the CDs!5Classical stylings of popular tunes - a total HIT!I rarely purchase music these days. Between being able to listen on YouTube to exactly what you want to hear, and Pandora that has introduced me to many new artists... I just don't see the need to own the actual songs or CDs anymore.I came across The Piano Guys by accident on YouTube. That evening I spent the next two hours searching out every one of their songs/videos. For the next two weeks, I was completely enamored. Finally I saw a video where they were asking for sponsors because they would love to quit their days jobs. I paid $35 for the first CD/MP3 download - more than strictly necessary to merely own the music. This is their second album and it is better than the first.Peponi is an African style re-imagining or Coldplay's Paradise. The video is awesome, the passion of the singer, the music... the whole package is so well done that my husband will come home, put this song on repeat at max volume (hope the neighbors appreciate it) and hum along for 30 minutes or more to it. The Cello Song is one by Bach (sorry, can't recall which one) remixed as a song for eight cellos. Each and every song here is a remix of a song you know well and can hum along to, but done by top notch musicians with great arrangers behind the scenes. Reminds me of when Beatles tunes were gotten ahold of by Herb Albert and Brazil 66.Steven Sharpe Nelson is the cellist. He started with guitar lessons as a kid, then switched to drums in his teens, then switched to cello (I may have the order wrong). Well now, the physical instrument he uses most often is the cello... and he plays it like a guitar and a drum set at the drop of a pin. (He plays piano, too, and Lord knows what else.)John Schmidt (no verification on whether or not his middle name is Jingleheimer) is the usual pianist. He is hugely talented and plays with the same passion as Steven. It is the passion combined with the skill that makes this such a worthwhile listen.5Well worth the priceI have only just heard of the Piano Guys and what a great find. They play their respective instruments superbly and they also get into what they are doing. Buy this CD and enjoy it. Go on Youtube or whatever and watch their videos. It is great entertainment. I would that they would make a video, for saie to watch them over and over again. If you go to view their videos, I recommend the Mission Impossible one and the Star Wars one. I do hope that they make many more CDs, especially a Christmas one or two. One thing is when you play this CD, have the bass up some. There is one song that has a kicking bass part in it. I play this CD in my car and I wonder how many people hear it, cause I got it up LOUD. Even if you are not into classical music, it is still a very great CD to listen too. It is by no means stodgy or boring. It is amazing on what these guys can do with music, with mainly a piano and a cello. And they don't limit themselves to just classical. There are non-classical pieces as well. The only bad thing about this CD is when it's finished, because you want to hear more and more of their music.5Ingenious ArrangementsThis is literally classical and contemporary music fusion. Piano Guys choose the best well-known music, and find some way to combine them so that the whole is beautiful, enjoyable, and fun. One thing that makes me cautious toward this type of fusion is that there's too much "fake" instrumental sounds in the music, such as a dominant use of electronic synthesizers. Not the case with The Piano Guys. They may use some, but the dominant instruments are either the grand piano, a cello, or both (two of my favorite instruments!). Just listen to some samples and I think you'll agree that there's something by Piano Guys that can fit most people's musical tastes. check out their music videos too; they're doing a "seven wonders" series where they are filmed on location of different wonders of the world. A very talented group. I thank them for their wonderful playing and clever arrangements.5I don t like it and won t be playing it again - once was enoughI grew up playing this classical piano and organ until I was in my late teenage years and my heart belongs to the piano till this day. I am retired now and I have music playing from the time I get up in the morning until after having dinner. My taste in music is quite varied and when I came across the Piano Guys CDs while looking for something else and read the tremendous reviews on all of them I bought this one and another one at the same time. I was anxiously waiting for them to arrive so I could enjoy their great music that so many other people were raving about. To put it bluntly I can t stand listening to them! Some of the tracks sound to me like an African tribal chant and in most of the others I don t even hear a piano. I really do rely on reviews when I m buying something that I m not familiar with but in this instance I just don t understand what it is that makes the Piano Guys music worthy of 5 stars - for me they don t even deserve 1 star!1Strength: Helping you move. Weakness: Composing remixes.A compilation of covers, ever-so-slightly jazzed up from the original. There's no central theme to song selection, making the album feel like a clutter of odds and ends rather than a planned and fleshed-out project. On top of that, nothing they added really feels like much of an improvement, coming across as either very minor variations or tacky accessories that don't fit all that well. It's not ACTIVELY BAD, per se, but you can do a lot better.2
