Customer Reviews

Good reeds to get you going quicklyI've played these for years. They have a bright sound, and are relatively predictable. I wish that there was even more quality control for the balancing of the reeds, before the plastic coating is applied. Obviously, you can't shave or manipulate the reed once the plastic coating is applied. But, not having to wet them ahead of time is a big plus for me. They last a long time, and the hardness is very consistent.4No breaking in, durable, uniform quality, great tone.....go figureI'm not one who likes to carry around wet reeds. Somehow with my Jody Jazz mouthpiece and SA 80 series I tenor, these work out very well. There's no breaking in. The quality is pretty uniform. They are very durable and last longer than regular cane reeds. I only use these with my tenor, I use cane with my alto.5Really excellent for beginning tenor sax players like me. I'll probably eventually move up to firmer reeds eventuallyReally excellent for beginning tenor sax players like me. I'll probably eventually move up to firmer reeds, but this is great for bending notes and expression more than the 2 or 2.5 reeds I've tried.5Usually I love these reedsNormally I absolutely love these reeds for tenor sax. However Amazon sent me clarinet reeds that were marked on the label as tenor reeds. My fault for not checking the merchandise when it arrived. However I use a lot of these reeds so I just put them in my Gig bag. My surprise when I opened the box and the reeds were for clarinet. Good thing I had a few spare tenor reeds I could use for the Gig. Bottom line is that it is passed the date to return them. So I have $30 worth of useless miss labeled clarinet reeds.1Great lead tone! Sand down the logo on the back! These reeds really do have a great lead tone. They would easily be FIVE STARS, BUT there is one flaw that affects metal mouthpieces especially. The reason I don't give them five or even four stars is because the logo on the back facing is embossed (now even more so after the manufacturer switched). This causes seel problems on metal mouthpieces / mouthpieces with slim tables. A simple seel test proves this. A bad seel means chirps. You can sand down the logo, but this means inevitably sanding off some of the plasticover which is really what makes these reads stand out. However, if you have a hard rubber mouthpiece or a mouthpiece that doesn't have a sensitive table, these are awesome!3Much less temperamental than standard reeds.I bought these reeds after years of dealing with the care and feeding of standard reeds. While these are natural reeds, the coating makes them much easier to use and less temperamental. I haven t noticed any differences in my tone... I bought 1.5 strength after other reviews cited they were more firm than standard reeds...5Only reed I buy for my tenorI've used these for many years...almost never have a bad reed. They're pricey but reliable and the plastic coating helps keep the reed from warping.5Better quality than plain reeds.I average about 4 usable reeds out of a box of 5 without scraping or sanding. No need to soak the reeds before playing. I can switch between alto and tenor with no worries that the reed will dry out and warp between playings. The plastic coat makes moisture bead up on the reed and causes a "frying" noise. I spray a very light coat of primer paint on the flat side of the reed near the tip. Water now coats the reed without beading. Much smoother sound.4Way too strong!I usually play 2.5s or 3s from Rico, Vandoren, Fibracell and others on tenor 7-8 facings. I originally got some plasticovers at 2 strength and they were way too hard to play in those tip openings. I was like playing a 5+ reed. So I got 1.5s and it s the same issue. I tried these on a Link 5* and it s still way too hard to play. I have no issue playing on 3.5 or even 4s from other reeds on that 5* but these 1.5s are almost like 5.5s or 6s if there were such a thing on the smaller tip opening. Not sure how anyone is using these.2Switched from Java GreensI love how these reeds respond and the slight edginess to the sound. Not having to keep the reed wet or spend a minute drying after playing is a bonus, too. The plastic starts to chip off after a while, but I haven't experienced any changes in how they play so far.5
