Customer Reviews

If you desire good intonation, this is your only capoMost of the time, I look at 5 stars as something that has 0 things to complain about. I'm breaking my rule here. I'll explain. This capo is not good for quick change, but when do you need to change a capo so quickly that 20 seconds matter? Rarely if ever. The Kyser and Dunlop are quality capos, but I spend more time getting them set just right so I'm not more sharp than the rest of the group, or buzzing like crazy. I just don't think the speed disadvantage was worth losing a star, since the intonation ability here is incredible. You can use this on so many neck shapes and have zero issues. I realize the kyser is what hangs in the stores for all to admire, but this is for true tone.5It would be perfect if it fit all my guitarsNever having seen one of these Shubb capos before, I said, "What on earth?!" when I first saw the thing in person. It's the smallest capo I've ever seen. Man, that thing is tiny!I put it on, fiddled with it briefly. Huh. What do you know. Man, that's NICE! It's easy to dial it so it puts exactly enough but not too much tension on the strings, it stays there, and it's the most unobtrusive capo I've ever used. It's almost like retuning the guitar and just playing it naturally. The presser bar really stays out of your way.I'm taking away one star, because this S1 is for steel-string acoustic guitars with 6 strings and radiused fretboards, yet none of that is all that evident in the product description here at Amazon. Every other capo I've owned has been a one size fits all kind of deal that worked on any guitar, so I just didn't pay any attention to whether it was for a 12-string or a classical or what have you. As it happens, I'm using this capo on the wrong kind of guitar, because I bought the wrong model for the application I had in mind. In spite of that, it still works better than any other capo I've ever used. That seems even more amazing now that I know it was the wrong choice for a classical in the first place. It's barely working, and still blows my old capo away.I will have even better results when I go buy the S2 or whatever it was.4The Shubb Deluxe is definitely the best capo I have ever ownedI got my first guitar, a nylon string classical, in 1961. I have used many different capos during the last 54 years. The Shubb Deluxe is definitely the best I have ever owned. It's very small, it's very easy to adjust, and it works great! It says on the packaging that it is a capo for steel string guitars I have a Godin electric nylon string guitar that has an inch and 7/8 nut it works great on that, although it probably will not work on a full 2 Classical neck. It also works great on my steel string acoustics. All I can say is this is the best capo I have ever used. Amazon shipping was fast and I am a happy picker!5The only capo you really need.People are picky about their capos, and some cost well over $100 (and some are, if I were a rich successful musician, worth it (from this same brand, actually!)), but, honestly, this one here- it's all you ever need. If you're like me and have several different guitars with significantly different neck sizes, but 2 or 3. At this price it's affordable. I have one for my slimmer necked Ibanez and Strat, one for my thicker necked Les Paul, and one I use for my acoustics. Not strictly necessary, but it's nice to have the tension set right where you like it (though, honestly, the way these clamp, if the tension is off a bit, it still sounds great!).I'd say this is the most inexpensive 'decent for a pro musician' capo there is. Until they come up with an affordable one that gets *completely* out of my way (all capos seems to bug my fret hand, to an extent, when I'm playing certain standard chords, as I end up right up against it), this is what I'll be using, practice, stage, recording.5Outstanding capo- exactly what I neededI bought this capo after reading some of the previous product reviews, and I am very pleased with it. I was looking for a capo that was smaller and that would not get in the way of fingering near the fret to which it was attached, and this certainly fit the bill. I also conducted my own tuning tests with the capo in place, after reading some of the comments from other users. I was impressed to see how the pitch changes slightly depending on the tension, and was able to set the tension perfectly with the thumbwheel adjustment, as advertised, to keep the guitar in tune with the capo in place. I was so impressed that I also bought the counterpart intended for classical (nylon strings) guitars, which generally have a wider and a flat fretboard (compared to steel-string guitars that generally have a slight radius to the fretboard). That one works equally well. Some other reviewers have indicated that this capo can work fine on a classical style guitar, and with some careful attention to placement, this is true. I found that the neck was a bit too wide on my own classical guitar to do this without more fiddling than was practical for me on an on-going basis, though, so I bought the second capo as well. It is just enough wider, and has the flat (instead of curved) bar, allowing for more uniform pressure on all of the strings, and was worth it to me. But, in a pinch, you can make this one (the S1 model) work for both guitar styles. I haven't tried it on an electric guitar, but I expect it will work equally well for that application.5Adjustable cable is by far superiorI had issues with previous capos Setting my guitars out of tune because of precept tension. Not so with this one. I can set just the right tensioner to get each string just below the fret to not buzz but without resetting the tuning. The curvature is exceptional for my acoustic guitars Do not get a capo with preset single tension. There's no substitute for an adjustable one Excellent product. I will never use anything but this one Considering how much I spent on my guitars this is a relative no brainer absolute bargain5Tried many Shubb is simply the best for me.I have tried the leading brands, Kyser, G7, Shubb and others. I think the secret to Shubb capos is that they are simple. They are not a system. They don't require me, the user, to learn them and they just work. That can be said of other capos as well but Shubb capos for me have noticeably less impact on the tuning of the guitar. I play harmonica along with the guitar and maintaining the tuning is critical. Also the Shubb low and small profile has always felt uninvasive and I do not feel crowded by the capo. Finally, for the Shubb partial capos their low profile makes it really easy for me to play over and around them when the piece calls for it. I have two pieces that I can only play because I am using a Shubb. No other capo gives me that kind of room. True they won't squeeze on to the end of the guitar but, they do hang from my pocket just fine. Yes, I do need to tweak the adjustment when I go up the neck on some guitars. It is really quick. For me, for the resulting quality is worth it.5Finally!!!!After using countless capos, I cannot rave about this one enough. It makes all the others about as useful as wrapping ribber bands on the neck. Not only is it made in America, but it s so thin snd small that you hardly notice it, even higher on the neck where the frets are narrow. The best part of all is, no buzz!!!! The secret seems to be that this capo opens fully, allowing you to use both hands to position it straight down on the strings. It s not hinged at the top which guarantees your strings are being moved before their clamped onto. I, for one, will never buy any other kind, regardless of what they promise on their site.5Best capo yet!I ve been playing guitar for many years and I have used many capos. This is definitely the best. I ve used Kyser, Dunlop, Planet Waves, G7th, and other lesser known brands. This Shubb works really well. No more out of tune like so many of the others. I love the adjustable tension which is so key to staying in tune. Many of them have a set spring tension which you cannot control which ends up knocking the tuning out. With this one you can adjust it exactly where it needs to be for the right tension. No, you can t store on the headstock but it s so small that it s no problem to just stick it in your pocket. If you do need to slide it to a different fret that is easily done with one hand. I will say that I ve been very happy with my G7th too but I would have to give the edge to the Shubb from a price standpoint. It is about half the price of the G7th and I honestly like the feel of it a bit better.5Best capo available. Easy to use and doesn't make your notes too sharp.I've tried about a dozen different capos and this one is hands-down the absolute best. I despise the springy clamp-style capos because they are uncomfortable to squeeze (those springs are strong!) and they sometimes mess up the tuning since you can't adjust the tension on most of them. This one works kind of like a pair of vise-grip pliers. You can adjust the tension with the screw on the bottom for just the right amount of force to hold the note, but not bend the strings into the fretboard and making all of your notes sharp.I bought this as a replacement for the same model I bought a few years ago then lost recently. This one had a nice update over the old one: They added a roller wheel under the adjustment screw. It used to be a rubber post which worked well enough but the wheel seems like it will last a lot longer and gives a more secure connection and a more consistent tension. It fits all of my electrics and my acoustic so fitment should not be an issue.5
