Customer Reviews

Shure SM35-XLR Headset MicMy reason for purchasing, was to not be stuck at a stationary mic, while playing guitar. Here are some of my findings about this mic. Be sure you have phantom power for this wired xlr mic with preamp. First thing I noticed when plugging in the mic was, it didn't work. The mic requires phantom power and once I compensated for that it worked. My previous mic did not require that. The headset is comfortable, flexible and stayed in position. The inline preamp is the least comfortable aspect as it does have some weight and you must attach it to your clothing by the included clip. It's too heavy to let the preamp hang. A woman may not have a belt or pants pocket to attach to. There is no included pouch or case with this mic, and you may want to acquire a carry case, & xlr cable as accessories. The sound quality and features met my expectations and so I'm satisfied with it.5Great mic! This microphone is amazing, I usually sing with the sure beta 58, this sounds incredibly close so I use it on extra gigs and then I don't have to carry a mic stand. I all about carrying less and less specially on one nighters. I do recommend this mic it will actually make you sing better and with proper technique, when you get loud on a regular mic you automatically separate from the mic to control the volume. With this head set you cannot it will follow you so you gotta use your diaphragm to control your volume specially on high notes. This leads to more correct singing and breathing techniques. Anyway, I use both mics the Beta 58 on my house gig and this headset in extra gigs I love it. I wish the clip was more sturdy it loosens easy and also the chord seems fragile but I am very careful with it. I ve had it for about 8 months with no incidents I transport it in the box it came with and I take care of it so... anyway I recommend this mic.5Better Sound Quality Than The Shure Aerobics Fitness Version But Less StableI am a street performer on the Santa Monica Pier and I use the SM35-TQG microphone professionally in my show. I sing and dance pop music. The sound quality is great for about $100. The sound is better than the SM31FH Fitness version and it is in fact a different, more open mouthpiece. However, the boom arm is less stable than the fitness mic and it moves around a little bit if you move your head vigorously. It still does a good job when you are dancing but the movement can cause slight variability in the sound level. You should not notice movement at all if you just walk around without jumping and spinning like I do. The only other drawback is that it picks up wind noise more than the fitness version. That can be a problem if you work outside like I do. But I see these two minor flaws as worth it to get the significantly better sound quality of the SM35-TQG. Don't get me wrong. The SM31FH Fitness version is a great microphone too, with good sound quality and I used one for a few years before switching to this one; but it does sound a little more muffled. I may still use it on windy days. You can't go wrong with either of these Shure mics. See you on the Santa Monica Pier!4Very Good for Live PerformancesI've got a five person band for our Hawaiian performing arts group. These headsets make for even audio. No fading in and out as a singer moves closer or farther away from the mic, or turns her face to the right or left. They use the Shure SM58 pick-ups which are time proven. These headsets are especially good when I want to record a live performance. Anyone want to buy my stick mics and stands?5A great choice!I bought this to replace my Shure WH20. It made a big difference in sound quality with deeper lows and crisper highs. The WH20 had sort of a hollow sound. The SM35 is also more comfortable to wear. It's made to be worn on the left side only, but it seems to work fine worn upside down on the right side as well. I'm very happy with my purchase.5Would have been great if the sound didn't drop outI'm a fitness instructor and use a headset mic to teach classes. I am on my second set of these headsets and each one drops out sound after 2 or 3 uses. Sometimes I teach 4 hour blocks and by the 2.5 hour mark, the sound starts to muffle and/or the mic completely stops outputting any sound. I ended up requesting a replacement in which I did a test between both headsets to see if I could isolate the problem to an anomaly defect in the first set I ordered, only to find that my newer set did the same thing after a few hours. I would then plug in the original headset I ordered and it would work fine. When it works the sound is clear and crisp and the headset sits comfortably, but all of those things don't matter if the headset completely drops out in the middle of a class.2So far so goodI have only used this once on a low volume gig, but I was impressed with the transparency- I had to keep checking that the thing was on! I guess I'm used to proximity effect, and obviously this setup doesn't allow that. The level is pretty low for a condenser, but I don't have any other head worn mics to compare it to. Build quality is excellent, it fits comfortably and the boom stays put. I finally got sick of fiddling with mic stands for my seated gigs, this thing sure doesn't look cool but for ease of use and movement, I think I've been converted. I go wired into my pa, so I hook the preamp onto my belt loop, and forget about it. Very happy so far, will report back if my opinion changes.5Outstanding Microphone for a Noise EnvironmentI recently decided to start up a podcast with a friend of mine and our plan was to record in local bars where it can obviously be quite noisy. These microphones have been nothing but amazing. You get a little bit of the background, but we are very clear with great sound quality.I haven't worn them for more than maybe two hours at a time, but they are comfortable for that length of time. Can even wear a pair of headphones over them without issue. Also, I wear glasses and the way these fit on my head works just fine with the frame of my glasses.5LA Fitness perfect match + other health clubs own your OWN MOUTHPIECE and stay healthyParts for fitness instructors are very hard to find. If you work for LA Fitness, and you confirm that the device/receiver in your club is indeed a SHURE brand device - this is by far the best, and most current option for you to avoid the drama of broken, and worse, smelly and disgusting headsets. (The lycra bands are filled with bacteria and are not washable). Do yourself a favor and BUY THIS for yourself. It plugs into the gym's battery pack, and will "connect" your voice wirelessly to the main club system. The old bending section to go around your chin that breaks all the time is REDESIGNED on this version and is pretty perfect and stays in place. The MOUTHPIECE comes off with a plastic snap (no dirty sponges that tear) and comes with 2. The band on top is a modern absorbent plastic and can be wiped down easily if instructors need to share, it's sanitary and not gross. I have recently been a part of 3 new expansion LA Fitness club openings and this is the headpiece set used at all of them. I have also tested mine at older clubs with older models as old as 2009 installations. I am recommending this to all coaches and instructors without hesitation. Years of stress and aggravation on this type of equipment is now over. Just find a special bag or case to store it in your workout bag - it's not meant to be crushed and abused by shoes and various things we carry around, it's delicate, but very sturdy.5great mic especially for the price.I got the "wired/XLR" version which is basically the same for the wireless except it comes with an inline adapter preamp that converts it to XLR. so -it can be used with a wireless pack if needed. The mic sounds amazing, especially for the price and it is comfortable. Shure quality is hard to beat. the ONLY issue that I truly have is that they only make it to come from the left side of your face- it is not switchable nor do they make one for the right side. I did get used to it quickly, though. It went straight to a friday rehearsal and a Saturday show. I normally play drums and sing backup -maybe one lead or two- BUT for this show and this band I sing lead and play all types of Latin percussion (conga/timbales) and move around quite a bit as it is all high energy- and the thing surprisingly stayed put. great mic. happy.5
