Customer Reviews

This is a must-have CD for every American child! This is a beautiful, varied collection of American folk music and poetry for children, that reflects the rich diversity of our shared culture. Not only will it introduce your baby, toddler or young child to American cultural heritage, but also to rhythm, melody, rhyme, language and fun with music. It will enrich the adults in the house too! Probably only a few of the songs will you recognize immediately, like Miss Mary Mack and Skip to My Lou--but you and your child will be familiar with and singing along with many of the other songs after hearing them only a few times.Worth every penny.5Excellent starter packThis is a great way to introduce children (and their parents) to folk music. It is filled with songs by legendary folk singers. The variety is very nice. The only complaint I have with it is that the collection is a little dated. It would be nice to have at least one song by Raffi in here, but I think he's too new.4Interesting folk music for kidsI ordered this for my granddaughter. We played it in the car and enjoyed the light-hearted tunes, though some were a bit long and more for the folk music historian. On the whole, it was worth getting.4Good Music, Broken CaseThe music itself is what I ordered, however it arrived with a broken cd case. I only opened it today when I needed it for a lesson, a month and a half after it arrived, and discovered that upon removing the plastic wrap the cd case was thoroughly broken. The spine is completely separated and shattered, leaving the case in about 5 pieces.4Folk Music for allWhat a fun way to expand your definition of music!!! This is fun for grownups and kids. Sing along! discuss the political climate at the time the music was recorded. Groove into history. Move your body by dancing at home to new (to you) rhythms. Fun and educational.5National treasure for the next generationOur whole family loves this album to the point that we know many of the songs by heart. It is nice to have a variety of artists and eras represented here. My only criticism is the uneven mastering on the c.d. version. I understand that since some of the tracks are old they may be a bit undefined but from track to track you have to adjust the overall volume. Some songs are way louder than others, I would expect better from the Smithsonian. Even so I still give it 4 stars because we are blessed to have access to these recordings at all.5A Delightful CollectionPre.School,Kindergarten and lower grades songs that children love. Excellent for use with youngsters in school and in church. Thanks to The Smithsonian for capturing.5A Must Have!As a parent, this is one of those fabulous bonuses!!! This is music I would listen to alone and it is an absolute delight to share it with my kids! It makes my heart bounce to hear them singing Pete Seeger and begging for more of it! It opened so many doors to musical exploration. I would recommend this c.d. to anyone ... kids, no kids ... it is fabulous, timeless music.5Great CD to introduce children to folk music! With all the mediocre or product-pandering commercial music for kids out there, this was such a relief. My 4-year-old loves it, thinks that sound Woody Guthrie makes in "Riding in the Car" is a scream, knows all the words to the songs, and it's introduced her (and me) to some great traditional folk songs. Highly recommended.5Product was not a cassette, it is a CD!This product was described as "audio cassette". When it arrived I was dismayed to see that it is a CD, not a cassette tape.I was very disappointed that it was not the product I expected to receive.2
