Fun, but Lags!I was looking forward to having this expansion of the Sims 3, but it is super glitchy at times. I created a house next to water and 5 minutes into my game, it lags. I read somewhere that if you aren't playing all of the expansions together it works better, but what if I want all of them?? The cool thing is being able to now build hotels!4Finally!!!!Finally EA has made an expansion pack, that i truly love (since Generations and Pets) and will never get bored with, this EP has so much to do in it and it is so much fun. My rich Sims can truly live the "Life Styles Of The Rich and Famous", You can own more than one home (I waited so long for this) and your Sims can live on house boats, swim, snorkel, become a life guard (new Job added) meet mermaids, live on your own island, own/run a resort, travel Island by Island on houseboat, speedboat, paddle boat, water cycle mobile, wind surf, you can still drive cars on land, deep sea diving, treasure hunt while under water, get attacked by sharks, it is also possible to be attacked by a Kracken/octapuss and more stuff to do. It is a series of Islands spread out in the tropics (of course) and yes you can change the weather to be always "summertime", you can buy house boats already build (1 to 3 bedroom) or build your own on a blank barge, it`s up to you. There are also hidden Islands that you can find (hidden by Fog) and other Islands you can explore/discover. There is also an "Island Survival" downloadable you can get and pretend you are "Tom Hanks" stranded on an Island. (smile) This EP is truly a dream come true and you will fall in love with The Sims3, all over again and become even more addicted than ever. I really and truly recommend this add-on to "The Sims3" Thanks5Looks great so far.Looks great so far. I haven't had a chance to get deep into the game play, but it does have some pretty interesting things to do. This probably not for everyone. It is a CPU and graphics hog. I have a really good gaming PC with AMD 4.3 GHz CPU with 8 cores, Corsair 2400 MHz DDR3 RAM, and eVGA GTX760 graphics card with 2 GBs of video RAM. It's a great system for Call of Duty with everything turned up to the max. On Island Paradise, there is a little lag now and then - not bad but noticeable. I can't imagine what it would be like on my wife's laptop. I haven't tried turning all the settings to low or off and won't ... because.I'm thinking this would be a nice vacation world. I'll play some of my other worlds most of the time and use NRAAS traveler and World Adventures to vacation on Island Paradise.Happy sim'ing.4I like the game, but it shows down my playI have enjoyed playing this game. I like the fact that you can own a resort, and fix it up. When you own a resort there are blue prints you can use to help design the resort. I did this the first time, so I could see how they are supposed to be set up. After that I have been designing my own space. I will say that I have multiple sims games installed on my computer. When I installed this one, I have noticed more system slowing than ever before. I will get stuck on certain times on the sims day. It freezes and eventually will let me keep playing.4Prepare to run a resort that the sims want to come toLike its nine predecessors,Island Paradise has all the bells and whistles you'd expect. New objects, new venues, new traits and skills, and new careers all of them themed around this island and boating lifestyle. But the real attraction here is the addition of houseboats and the opportunity to build and manage your very own resort. No longer is your Sim restricted to the ground beneath his/her feet. Houseboats are exactly what they sound like, your Sims' house on a boat, giving you the ability to go anywhere in the ocean. Aesthetically and functionally, it's just like any other house you'd build. Aside from the nautical themed decorations and All-in-one bathroom, there's not much different. You still have all your basic rooms and can perform all the same actions you'd do in a regular house (even going to work by way of water taxi). Being in the ocean is in no way limiting, but it's also not as rewarding as I'd like.Gameplay when owning a houseboat does open up a bit. You can travel from dock to dock and travel the local islands, or you can take your houseboat (or ski boat or Jet Ski) for a whirl and unlock uncharted territories and open up new areas for you to drop anchor and discover. Underwater explorations through the scuba diving and snorkeling activities can lead to the discovery of exotic fish, caves, and shipwrecks. Like everything else you do, these activities serve as a nice break from the monotony of every day Sim life. It's worth noting, that to take part in some of these activities you need to increase your Sim's scuba diving skill. But for as neat as owning a houseboat and swimming underwater can be, that alone isn't the attraction of Island Paradise. The notion of building and running your own resort was the highlight, mostly because it adds a new element to The Sims 3 gameplay. Resorts in Island Paradise don't follow the typical build-and-play routine. You can actually manage the resort, making all the decisions from what amenities you offer to the uniforms of your employees.Owning your own resort can be a bit overwhelming, but it gives you something to strive for. Whether your building a resort from scratch or purchasing an existing one, it's up to you to get it the best rating possible decided by guest reactions to the amenities, food, environment, and a ton of other factors. there are a lot of extras in the limited edition that makes it worth getting.4Its a great idea...but be cautious. The idea behind this game is awesome! Has a lot of great cloths, hairstyles, furnishings too.Unfortunately, EA did not get around to fix the many glitches this expansions contains. For some you need to use special commands/cheats to override or correct this problem yourself. For other fixes I've read online can be found by way of 3rd party corrections and patches. I've read that some work and others do not so the game still has annoying glitches which makes it hard to enjoy.3Do not buy this expansion packPiece of turd expansion. This is by far the worst expansion pack ever released. Wish I paid more attention and did more review checks on this before buying. The freeze and lag is amazing. In 1 min of gameplay, I played 10 secs if good (5 secs if bad) and the rest of the 50 secs is stuck watching the game freeze. The resort play was interesting while I could get to play something. Could not comment on the rest of gameplay because of the freezing and lagging going on. If you do buy this expansion pack, do NOT play on the Isla Paradiso. Other worlds seem to be fine.1Good idea, but couldn't get it to work.I have always liked the Sims, and was super excited about this expansion pack, but it was kind of a let down and a waste. Yes, to be fair I am playing on a laptop, but its a gaming laptop. The minute my Sim is on the water, either in a boat, diving, swimming or in a boat house, the game slows to a crawl. I got to the point where I was having one frame every 23 minutes or so. The longest wait time I had before my screen would effectively unfreeze was 58.7 minutes. And playing on the island town makes the game slower in general. The load times and wait times are shorter when playing other towns, even if I use the same items. And I was not able to do any diving to be honest. I couldn't see what was going on, and the shark spawn rate was ridiculous. It really is a great concept, but I just couldn't get it to run right. I would have to buy a desktop to get this to work, so sadly, I just don't play in the island paradise town. I wish it worked better.2Fun in the SunElectronic Arts seems to be doing this thing with the Sims 3 and 4 expansion packs where they put as little as possible into each expansion and then sell the rest as a separate expansion in an effort to make more money. I say this because I think this expansion should have come with seasons. All the new activities would have been great with summer. I don't understand why they made it its own expansion, other than the money. The expansion itself is really buggy, like most Sims 3 expansions. I had to move out of the new world that came with this expansion because it made my game super laggy and slow. This game follows the idea of World Adventures. You can "explore" different islands to find more land and other cool things. They basically just added onto Seasons and World Adventures with this expansion. The water features are really cool, like the ability to use boats and dive into deep waters. I'm still working on learning how to make my own diving spots so that I don't have to use the ones that came with the laggy and slow default world. I also thinks this added more to my beaches as well. They look so much cooler. You can manage a resort as well. I tried it, and I really liked it. I liked how the reviews for your resort sounded so real, and not a single one of them were exactly the same. I also liked how you could upgrade your towers and add more to your hotel to make it better. It gave you something to do. Sadly, owning a resort also made my game laggy and slow, probably because of all the Sims walking around on it, so I had to remove it. Basically, The Sims 3 game isn't rendered well, so EA didn't do a good job adding features that wouldn't slow down your game.Lastly, I loved the new mermaid feature. The mermaids are so pretty and fun to play in the water. Sadly, they're not very practical for having a family and a normal job. Since they require so much water, my mermaids were constantly getting dehydrated during work and while just doing basic tasks. It was hard to me to keep up with them, especially if you start having children and get a family of mermaids. You don't even get a warning when they're about to die, so they're really easy to forget. Either way, I enjoyed the experience.Overall a very fun game, but really, I would hate to think how much money I've spent on all these expansion packs. I wish EA would stop being so greedy.4Worst expansion pack by farThis is the worst expansion pack by far. Isla Paradiso (the world it comes with) is unplayable. It starts out fine, but about ten minutes in, the game begins to freeze every thirty seconds or so, for about ten seconds each time. Extremely frustrating. Without being able to use the world, the other features of the expansion pack are useless. There is nowhere to scuba dive in Sunset Valley or any other world, no ports or house boats, no Kraken, etc. etc. Don't waste your money.1
