Customer Reviews

A solid non-Sony choice. The quality of the product looks as good as a Sony-made product. The actual fit with the PS3 not so well. The connection to the PS3 was not smooth. I had to shimmy the male end of the connection to the PS3. Once in place though, the cable stayed firmly in place. The main issue for me is that the PS3 is constantly being moved and disconnected then reconnected. So I am worried that the connection port would be damaged.4So close to perfect! Well worth it!!After long searching for an OEM Sony S-video cable for my PS2 for a decent price, with no luck, I decided to consider going with a third party solution. I was tempted by the price on this one but after reading some reviews, especially one in particular, I decided to take a gamble. The review that lead me to purchase this was from EposVox, a YouTube presenter that I have followed for a while now. He has content on retro gaming and CRT dispalys, but I digress. Once I had the cable in place and powered on my PS2 I was immediately impressed. The S-video signal is clean with no detectable video noise and there is no video signal bleeding in to the audio. The next thing I immediately notices is that S-video stood up against even 480i component, the clarity and color depth was slightly better with S-video. I saw saw some reviews stating that the end that plugs in to the console has a "death grip", I did not find this to be the case. It is snug but, as long as you don't just try to cram it in to place, not in any fashion that would damage your console. The overall cable feels like a quality product, although the ends with the rca and s-video plugs do feel a tad thin. The plugs themselves feel great! My only complaint, albeit a very small one considering how easy it is to rectify, is that the audio is wired backwards. The left channel plug carries the right channel audio and vice/versa. Just connect red to white and white to red and the audio will be where it should be.4Had to revise this review twice but overall satisfied.Ive only tried these on a ps1&2.When I received these i tested it for a while and I received some mixed results. When tried on a ps2 it worked incredibly well. Its sharp, clear and the audios pretty good. It worked well for games like Red Dead Revolver, Metal Gear solid 2, The Warriors and worked incredibly well with ps1 games too especially when using the smoother. The only set back o saw from ps1 games on the ps2 was that they had a slight checkerboard pattern. You cant notice it from a distance on smaller monitors but you might on bigger ones. The checkedboard patter also happens a bit on ps2 games but nowhere near as often as on ps1 gamss. Now when i tested it on a ps1 it acted a bit strange. For the first 5 mins it worked fine but then the letters on the screen started shaking a lot. Also its pretty hard to put the plug inside the port behind the ps1. I had to jiggle it left and right a bit like you normally would with a key that doesnt want to fit through a hole. Now a few days later I purchased a Sony Branded PS3 S-video cable and tried it on my ps2.It worked amazingly well. I put a ps1 game in and the checkerboard pattern was gone completely. When i tried it on a ps1 however it did gave me the same results as it did with the the 3rd party cable but not as often. I think it s because the port might be dusty so i most likely have to clean it out a bit. These 3rd party cables werent that bad when compared to the Sony Branded cables. I think id rather use the sony branded cable on the ps1 since it slided in much easier then with the 3rd party cable.Would I recommend this? For a ps2 its not a bad alternative but keep in mind here and there you might see a slight checkered but its not entirely noticeable.Ps1 on the other hand im not sure. I ll see what results i get later on.4Picture looks so crisp!A friend gave me an old CRT a while ago and I just realized that it has an S-video input so I decided to get this cable. The difference is night and day, I'm very happy with this!5It works, but...I accidentally bought two of these. Which was good, because one was dead right out of the gate! The other one worked for a while, but I switch between my PS1, and my Japanese and US PS2 fairly regularly on my setup. The entire reason why I bought this cable was because of the S-Video output. I needed that to go to my Elgato and the Composite to my CRT TV. The S-video picture looks a little funky, and viewers of my live streams noticed that there was a bit of a shadow on text. I don't have this issue with my Saturn, Dreamcast, or N64 cables, for what it's worth. And within the last week, the right audio channel has completely cut out. I've had this setup for a little over a year now, which is WAAAAY too quick for a cable like this to die out.Buyer beware, it'll work, but not for nearly as long or nearly as well as you would like.2Worked for Playing PS1 Games on a PS2 Console!I was having problems playing PS1 games with my PS2 console. My Insignia television was giving me an error message. After some research, I found that using the YPbPr component cable allows the console to send a variety of pixel resolutions to my television. My television can't handle 240p input, thus the error message when using PS1 games (PS1 games default to that resolution, while PS2 games use a higher resolution). I discovered that there is only one resolution (480p?) that S-Video sends/receives, so I assumed this cable would "upconvert" the output of my PS2 to that setting, and my television would play my PS1 games. It does the job, and the image looks good on my television. Also, it's a decent quality cable.5Works perfectly w/ my PS One (slim) and Sony Trinitron HD CRT TV.Works perfectly w/ my PS One (slim) and Sony Trinitron HD CRT TV.Cables are nice and thick, connections feel secure. Length is ideal.5Please Read and like if it helpedLet me help you guys out. This is a good product but there are some things you need to know. 1st if you using a newer TV then make sure you set it to 4:3. This cable will make the resolution better then the standard cables that came with your gaming console. If you are looking for some really good quality then u need an old school CRT TV. The product itself is ok but definitely can tell it's made in China and not the same quality as the retro monster cables that you can't buy anymore but honesty you wouldn't see a difference in the TV resolution between the two. It's a good buy for what it is.4Poor S-Video quality and "Deathgrip"The cable has an EXTREMELY tight grip on my PS1 A/V out port, feeling like it will damage it to plug it in.On top of that, the S-Video output seems to have composite or some other interference causing severe checker boarding.2If it doesn't work on PS3 for you, read this...When I first tried plugging this in on the PS3 it didn't work and it took me a few minutes to figure out why... Most hardware you simply plug it in and it works automatically. But with the PS3, you actually need to re-configure the display settings if they were not previously set to S-Video / Composite. If it was setup previously on HDMI, you need to plug it in with an HDMI cord to an HDMI TV, then switch it to Composite / S-Video and save your changes. It's a huge pain if you don't have an HDMI TV on hand (I actually set mine up blind through a youtube video) but I can confirm it does work if you know what you're doing.5
