Customer Reviews

Looks good, breaks easyI bought these for a Rock Band party. With the lights down low, it definitely added to the fun.I expected that they might break by the end of the party. They lasted most of the way. One stick stopped lighting up. The other one still works. A few days later, I took a look at it. The strip of metal that connects the batteries snapped right at the little circuit board where a big solder-glob holds it on.NOTE: The sticks are "ON" when they are shipped! You can not turn them off. They light when they are moved. So, don't expect a full battery charge when they get to you. However, I shipped them to South America and they worked fine.I am pretty sure that when the batteries wear out it would be VERY hard to change them without breaking the flimsy parts that make the light work. The sticks are a little heavy, but we were able to adapt by holding them higher on the handle.Quality-wise this product really does NOT earn four stars. However, I got what I expected and I would possibly buy another pair for my next event.4Work Great - They seem solid enough!Looked great on stage. To be honest I thought they were gonna break, especially when I invited someone from the crowd to play the drums and he really banged the sh... out these! But...they are still working with no issue. They look pretty awesome on stage especially in low lightOnly bad thing is that they dont really have an on-off switch. If you want to turn them off you have to unscrew the screw that holds the batteries (with a screwdriver). Not sure how long the batteries last. We have used them in 3 shows and we have been carrying them around for a while - they do turn on when you shake them but they get the brightest when they are actually hit, so they get the job done very well. Pretty sturdy. We have the red and the blue - attached some photos5nice sticks just for show, but not for pro'sI had sought these sticks out for use during a candlelight service at my church during Christmas. They definitely served their purpose as I got MANY compliments, but they cannot replicate the responsiveness of normal drum sticks. Quick background on me is that I have been playing since 5th grade, then the last 11 yrs with this praise team.I played a song that was 3/4 time and didn't require any rudiment rolls on the snare. I would have given up the show of these sticks had I needed that accuracy. Overall, they were very bright and I saw that the batteries are easily found at most drug stores because the AG13 is a battery that Duracell and Energizer makes as a "357" or similar button cell. The stick dimensions are not mentioned on the site description but I found them to be similar in length and diameter to what I like - a 5BN. Overall because of my intent to have glowing sticks that light up when you hit them to your drum, I found it was worth the purchase.4Changed my review because amazon.com made it rightOne lit up & was very brilliant - the other barely lit up at all. These were a gift for my 19 year old grandson, so initially I was very disappointed. We once bought him a set at Disneyland. They were very brilliant from the start/lasted for years. When I complained to amazon.com about these, they made it right, so I purchased the $6 batteries. Once I was able to change the battery (not as difficult as it appeared - as I used the screwdriver from an eyeglass kit) these turned out to be an excellent gift indeed! Now the grandson is drumming all over the house (& destroying our hearing with the noise). He also enjoys drumming in the air at night, even when we are out driving (these light up when he drums in the air). Also he takes them to bed & drums even after "lights out". Well that's why I bought them, because I wanted him to get back to his drumming and he has! He used to be a drummer in the high school band & had given up on his drumming. So maybe he will pick his drum set up again someday, instead of tapping these sticks on the tables, chairs, books & beds. I hope so, cause then I can stop telling him to "Quit doing that!"5Has a good weight and feel to itHas a good weight and feel to it. Lights up at light touches as well as harder ones, the light does adjust intensity to match the intensity of the hit, as advertised.Yes, they are plastic instead of wood. My musician friends say that there really isn't much of a difference in sound. They don't dislike the plastic, they say it just feels "weird" when used to wood.Only downside is that it does light up at light touches, which wouldn't be a problem except for that fact that there is no on/off switch, nor are the batteries easily removable. So when left inside a bag with other items it will be lighting up continuously, which can be distracting in some scenarios and also drains the battery even when it isn't in use.Overall makes for a great gift or just for yourself.4Great sticks for added effectI almost passed on these because of the low ratings people have given them. I took a chance on them anyway because I figured the fun effect they could have out weighed the chance that they were as bad as the reviews said they were. The fact is, these are pretty cool. I have played with them for about 1 hour total now and they work great and are holding up to quite a beating. Far more than I thought they would. They light up bright and look pretty awesome.Having said that, there are a few things these are not. First as mentioned in other reviews they do not have the same feel as a wood stick. I see no reason to lower their rating for that though because after all, they are not wood sticks! Wood sticks are pretty rigid where these have some flex to them. They're not rubbery just not rigid like wood. This is likely so that they are durable. Unlike wood, plastic has no grain structure. If these were made more rigid they would likely be brittle and break easily. These are likely a compromise between rigidity and durability. Overall I'd say the effect is very livable and they are very playable. Also, these will likely not be as durable as a good wooden stick. These again are not wood and plastic after all. The thing is, wood sticks don't last forever and even break during use. These also will not be every day sticks and possibly not even all night sticks. They will be sticks where the added effect of a brightly lighted stick is worth the loss of feel and possibly durability. If you're thinking about these for an added effect for a show or a little novelty when your playing, I say go for it. They do appear to be able to hold up pretty well to hard use and for limited uses they can be pretty cool. Just don't expect that you will throw away your wood sticks, that's not the point of these.B5SKIP THESE - Poorly made!Very cool concept, but not executed well. These were purchased for my middle school son (who doesn't formally play the drums) and of course he LOVES these! They arrived with one stick not as bright as the other and it quickly was so dim, that the light up effect was gone. We tried to replace the batteries - I think it would have been easier to invent and create my own drumstick!!!! Think eyeglass screws (who has that kind of screwdriver set?) and then we had to remove the entire circuitry around the battery which included a thin piece of metal surrounding the base of the stick (inside) that had adhesive holding the battery compartment in place - and acted as the circuit connection so it had to be peeled off and not bent so I could try to restick in place (impossible not to bend - think thick foil). THEN you get to the button batteries stacked inside the bottom of the plastic part of the stick - They are held in place with little mounds of plastic stoppers - I do not think the batteries are meant to be changed...however at this point I had the entire thing dismantled so what did I have to lose...after TWO days of trying every little pointy thing I could find in our house, I finally got the batteries out. I replaced them with fresh new ones, reassembled the circuitry, and the light was STILL DIM!!! Very frustrating! I then thought maybe I bought new batteries that were old? So I tried ANOTHER package of new button batteries - STILL DIM!!! So we are returning them and my son is very disappointed! They flexed alot more than wood drumsticks - quite noticeable, even to us novices. That might explain why the plastic immediately was filled with tiny little cracks all the way down both shafts - noticeable when not in use and negatively impacted how the colored light shone through the stick - skip this one! A total disappointment!2Far better that I thought they would beI almost passed on these because of the low ratings people have given them. She has been asking for new drumsticks that won't break (the local music store has low-quality sticks). I got these because her favorite color is purple, and I saw reviews on other listings for the same item, and it got good marks. I wasn't expecting these to be so cool! I got them and fell in love with them. I need to order her another set, because I have taken them for myself. They light up when you hit them, rather than just staying lit, so it follows your beat. Very cool. I am also surprised by the quality of construction. I have really been beating the heck out of them, and no signs of wear or stress at all on the stick, or the tip. They are high-quality plastic, that doesn't splinter like wood. Our wooden drumsticks will last a few days max... a good jam night sometimes will put us back 3 or 4 pairs, but these have managed to withstand daily brutal pounding. The are strong, and super cool looking in the dark! Also, I was expecting quite a bit of bounce back, but they don't really at all. Very happy with my purchase. We will be ordering more in different colors!5Work Great - They seem solid enough!Looked great on stage.
