Customer Reviews

A great mixer with a "design flaw"I rarely write review but I feel I need to share my experience. Hope it would help someone.I will not restate how great this board is because all the good reviews are true. I love this beautiful and powerful board. All the features are awesome and the sound is wonderful. I love the effects and on the fly adjustments. Even the adaptor connector is of professional grade. There is one thing I don't like, and that's a deal breaker. Several users complained recording through the USB yielded weak signal. I did some Internet research but found nothing. When I received the board, I read the USB recording section in the manual right away. According to the manual, we need to route the signal to "Monitor" (do not press "ST") AND mute "Monitor/Phones" (press the mute button) to record through the USB port. In that situation, in order to monitor, we need to use the computer's headphone out. So, the band can all play but everyone needs to somehow manage to monitor through the computer's headphone jack. In the karaoke situation, it's hopeless: since the signal must be routed to stereo out or monitor out so everybody can hear what the singer is performing, only extremely low level of signal "bleeds" through the USB port for recording. So, the band cannot go live and record at the same time. I tested, and that was what happened, like the manual said. So, in short, the sound can either go to stereo/monitor or to the USB port for recording. That's true. (Please let me know there is another way, I will reorder this board).I don't understand why the engineers decided to make that board less versatile like that. To me it is like a design flaw (but it is not, of course). I hope the future version will provide users with reasonable recording capability. Still don't understand why it's so hard. It's a Yamaha.Eventually I keep the Yamaha AG06. It is a wonderful piece of equipment.4I was looking for something that was reliable sounded great, and had a good feature setI looked at buying a few different mixers before deciding on this one. I was looking for something that was reliable sounded great, and had a good feature set. This mixer is great for a few reasons1) It's yamaha. They are generally pretty reliable. I own other yamaha music equipment and haven't had any issues with any of those items2) Has good fx including a compressor. The mic compressor alone makes this product so much better then other mixers in terms of versatility. For recording its nice to have a little compression for the vocal before it hits the AD converter.3) You can use this as an interface. I can't comment on its use as a an interface as I own a universal audio solo 610 interface that I love. But its a good feature to have.4) The reverb: sounds wonderful. Particularly room 1, fx 3. It helps to glue everything together and put it in the same space.5) The use the fx send and it has been great for a ton of uses. I use it mostly as an external bus. Whats great here is that you can use the internal effect like say a reverb and mix in a little. You can simultaneously use the fx send and send out to a delay unit, and then place the return on another channel. Other units its fx send or internal fx, you won't be able to use both.6) Feels sturdy and seems well built. So far i've had it on well over 20 hours of use and its been good. I'll update this in a few months.7) Value. For the money if you compare the comparable mixers like behringer and mackie I think the choice is clear. Both of the former companies have reliability issues. Mackie preamps are good but fx are bad. Behringer preamps are hit and miss but fx are good. Yamaha is overall great.Cons: For me nothing really except I wish the EQ had three bands for every channel. And I wish I could have an fx send that wasn't tied to the internal fx.5Broke after 2 years of useso i order this back in 2017, i would think it would last longer than 2 years. Nope, windows doesnt even recognize it any more, cannot download any new drivers cause i keep getting an error "Page not found, Some problem occurred: Either some unexpected information has been sent or system failure occurred. Please go back to the previous page to perform necessary operation, or please wait for a while and try it again." i even sent the link to a couple of friends and they got the same issue. After two years and a "Quality" product, i would recommend against buying it. Its a nice mixer but the support is bad for it, drivers nah they dont exist :D.EDIT: Its been a couple days since i posted this, and i wrote an email to their support, i have heard nothing. What wonderful customer service. I WOULD NOT BUY. Its a great mixer yes, but the customer support is horrible. I will continue to update this review.1easy to use, good customizationi really like this unit. have been using it for a couple of months now. paired with 2 12" yamaha powered speakers. i use it primarily for vocals like a mini sound board. i have the board on a mic stand (using a mount from amazon) in the middle of our practice room so i can make adjustments mid-song.i have also used it a bit to record. hooked it up USB directly to my mac book with logic pro. worked immediately with no issues.5Good mixer, but beware of intermittent audio crackling!I like pretty much everything about this mixer. Good quality, very sturdy, serves it s purpose - I use it for music streams on Twitch. There is an issue with intermittent crackling and audio morphing coming through the headphones when I have the usb line running in from the computer. It doesn t show up on recordings, and it never happens when I m only monitoring myself - it s not the headphones. After some research, it looks like this is a common problem people have had with this mixer, and there doesn t seem to be a fix, so it does lose one star for that, since it s kind of a lot of money for having to just deal with this. This will be a long-term moderate annoyance for me, as I ll be using this setup to playback recordings, and I also use it for gaming. Thankfully it doesn t make it completely unusable. The audio issues last for a couple seconds up to about a minute, and you can still understand what s being said if you pay close attention. But everything else has been pretty great.4No Box, Terrible Win10 USB InterfaceYeah, so I wanted SO bad to love this USB mixer, but after 7 hours of trying to get it to work with my PC, I just can't recommend it as a USB interface. It technically works, but the input is so low that the audio is unusable without heavily changing how your PC uses audio input (aka 3rd party programs). The preamps are great, but I needed a USB interface, so I guess I'll get a Mackie or Focusrite. If you want a good mixer for live applications or you have a Mac or Linux system (don't know, don't have 'em), I'm sure this would be awesome. Otherwise, I would say stay far, far away from this one.1Great Value! My only complaint is that it gets ...I bought this to replace my Yamaha MG16CXU Mixer. This mixer is loaded with features. First and foremost are the balanced XLR-outputs. Each mic has a gain control, Mic 1,2 have compression and if you have high impedance equipment or just need to give a singer a little bit of a boost, each mic has a 26 dB pad. There two stereo line in connections with both 1/4" and RCA and the third line in that has a direct USB feed from a PC using the Yamaha Cubase driver at 24 bit/192kHz. The line in from the PC using the USB has very little latency and has zero ground loop interference. To top it all off, there is phantom power to the mics and 24 SPX effects that can be injected into each channel and you can use the Cubase AI code included to mix it all up yourself on the PC. Great Value! My only complaint is that it gets hot. Sometimes a little too hot that makes me feel uncomfortable leaving it on when I walk away from my PC.4Using 10xu for home karaokeWorking great for this audio amateur. USB to computer for Karafun feed and to record performances. Just using Windows sound recorder because I haven't got my head around Cubase. Other karaoke components purchased from Amazon: Mackie Thump 15, Behringer xm8500 microphones (awesome value), CBI mic cables, CSRET HDMI splitter to send Karafun video to TV and monitor. All working great. Mixer has good effects. Solid, quality construction. Took me a while to figure out settings to get signals going where I want: all buttons depressed (i.e. TO ST, USB, MUTE). Gain set to 2-3 oclock to get sufficient signal to USB.5MG10XU Mixer gets very hot, in addition to the USB output being very lowMixer functions well, as generally reported in other reviews here. Two major problems:(a) the USB output is very low. ( I am using Audacity, and Reaper as my DAW's). I have reported this issue to Yamaha support, who suggested that was a cable issue connecting my devices, (my second laptop, Yamaha piano, and type of mikes (Condenser vs Dynamic...) Cable and connector types: TRS vs RCA etc...are fine. Also the LED output level indicators can barely show signal levels from any of the devices mentioned above. I was willing to cope with that situation.(b) Significant issue is that after about an hour of use, the back plane (rear side along the XLR connectors all the way by the USB connector to the power connector) gets hot I mean REALLY HOT to the touch, to the point where one can smell the heat rising from that area, almost as hot as an iron.I think this is even a more urgent situation, given that I only have a simple set up of 2 devices usually connected to the mixer (my piano, and my the laptop) then the USB going to to my main workstation for some occasional recording and mixing sessions. So, I am planning to return it under the advisement of a Yamaha tech (Dale) I talked to today.I have noticed that everyone who owns the MG10XU has come away with a different set of experience, some satisfied, elated, and others disappointed one way or the other, I tend to believe there may be an inconsistent production quality issue with this device in addition to some underlying as-is design problems. So I am not sure exactly how to rate this device except to say there is something wrong with this one. And this, after about 1 week of use.Should anyone have similar experience feel free to comment. Thanks,3Excellent! But careful replacing a USB DAC with this... (MG10XU)So let me start out with a $200 lesson learned: There is no way to allow audio through the USB channel but not through the monitor. I clean up mic input via software (sound floors), but using this as a "sort-of" DAC means I constantly hear everything the mic picks up even though that's not what is recording on the computer. Now, if that is a feature you require, the MG12XU does offer it, but I only found that out after extreme research after purchasing the MG10XU and procrastinating on setting it up for far too long. Now, luckily I still get the intended use out of the board because I bought it to use with a second PC for streaming and will use a Scarlet 2i2 for my gaming computer. So just be careful if you are looking for a fully-featured board to replace your DAC (and you don't want to hear every little thing your mic picks up), you need to go up to the MG12XU for that. Just be aware that the MG12XU is MUCH MUCH larger than the two additional channels would make you think. The board itself is phenomenal. Running my mic (AT2035) through this board cleaned up some sound issues I was having with the Scarlet 2i2 (USB phantom power devices can be problematic, and it's usually your computer's fault). The mixers and effects have a noticeable impact, and the changes seem to be relative to the knob. My use case is sort of limited, but for my purposes it is an excellent device.5
